"Intelligence" can even be satisfactorily defined or measured. The most horrifying ramification is that if artificial general superintelligence were to ever exist, we'd have no idea.

Coming out of Uni with a PhD in the UK in 2003, I went looking for some "curiosity driven" research and didn't find any. The dotcom bust had sucked budgets dry and no-one was hiring. I've dipped my toe back into the mark

Domain model is the peristence model. Splitting them apart is often known as an anemic domain model (in Domain Driven Design). All the domain logic is on the entity. So our command handlers (akin to your service methods) look like: 1. Load

You're right that not all engineers get to WFH but more can than you'd imagine. I know defense contractors that are working from home. Two of them did so before the pandemic too - remoting into hardware they're not allowed to

Depends what "disconnected" means. Before Object Relational Mappers came along, you wrote a load of SQL in Stored Procs or in some other framework. This was super tight coupling because updating the database version could ruin eve

This is awesome; did a quick ego search and didn't find mine in there but found some references to it. Nonetheless, an excellent resource!

Thanks for the deets. I've never needed an accountant/tax person, even when I was working 2 tech jobs.

Thanks for the input. I understand the concerns. As a Brit who checks his taxes, I've only been overcharged once when I changed jobs and the rebate was fixed the following month (I paid less tax that month). I do still have to file if

Modern problems require modern solutions. I hope your boss isn't on HN. If my team wanted to check the scores it wouldn't bother me - I hired people not robots.

That's very kind of you to offer. I don't think any clock is going to help people who make meetings run over or are always late! I really like your solution, though. It's very neat.

I like the idea but for the teams I have worked with, the trouble they have with timing isn't going to be solved by any clock!

Given that executive dysfunction is one facet of ADHD/ADD, having opt-out is definitely preying on the users. Avoid.

My ancestors are all Scottish or Celtic going back as far as the point where people didn't move around much. I've heard red-beards often referred to politely as gingerchins. Which is oddly fun to say. Having worked for Scandinavia

This is an excellent, well explained article. For most of the small companies I work for, database hosting is treated like a utility so we end up using RDS etc. The benefit of arranging your own k8 database setup is outweighed by the cost o

This article raises some great points but is still trying to close the stable door after the horse has bolted. If your business is agile, it begins with the style of engagement between you and the customer. Really agile businesses don'
