Same here, homebrew rocks Fink and Macports way out of the water. If you need any type of packet management and you are on a Mac, it should be your go to option.

Same here. The Mac OS X version of the Kindle software is atrocious and this was perhaps, if only for a second, a shred of hope.

In reply to the name comment I love it! It is different, fun, and super easy to remember. I can definitely see how it might not jive with some people though, to each their own.

Nothing is going to fall apart if you write everything in full .txt files. Word, iWork, Google Docs, and generally everything will open the file and it isn't formated with the likes of Word. If you feel truly and honestly feel that you nee

Yes, the down votes on my previous thread confuses me. I am definitely not the larges MS Word lover in the bunch; however, there is no way that the wonderfully intelligent community that is HN is depending on it to format text that is bein

Really? Maybe I missed the train but I wouldn't produce something that needs serious formatting in Office. I would imagine a language like LaTeX or even Markdown would be a better choice for seamless sharing between applications and the w

This is the exact question that I raise whenever I find a new one (and there seems to be many). Lots of people use Aviary but that is more a Photoshop sudo-replacement over a true "drawing app." It would be great if someone did some deep t

I am rocking Chromium and it seems to render fine on mine as well. I do however, agree that there needs to be some text rendering continuity between browsers. It really is a shame that maybe tops, 5 people are talking in this thread and mo

Definitely a comment that is worth a prop. In addition, I am completely impressed with the lack of lag in the voice calling that I constantly have issues with in Skype. If you could pick up in Gmail, have solid to no lag, Google could prod

I too always question the "solve a problem" drum that everyone keeps banging around. These services are used to keep close friends in the loop and those friends can be between 1-100 years of age. If you don't see a need or want to know wher

The easy of use, focus, and overall money savings aspect to this site is genius. The way they categorize the length of travel VS pay, along with the actual air line is genius. On top of the visualization and dissemination of a lot of data,

It is odd, because, and this is my feeling, both of these services (Foursquare and Gowalla) provide a much richer, more exciting LBS.

Although the effort from Sharpie is great and will ultimately purchase a few, I think a lot can be said about a geek by their pencil. My fave at the moment is Pentel Kerry. Amazing mechanical pencil that feels phenomenal in hand, what is

Moleskins are the sketchpad of many a great idea. Even in a note taking situation (college) they work fairly well. Pair them with a Pentel Kerry .05mm HB mechanical thing of beauty and you have a lot going on. edit for typos

On board with the both of you. In addition, minimalism in design often involves minute tweaks to make the overall better, easier, or whatever. This method is very reminiscent of how developers optimize code (should).

Are any of us really super concerned about our karma rating? Don't get me wrong, it is a great little perk; however, I doubt the community at large is biting their nails in concern over their rating. Although, I did learn in this thread th

My idea would be to grab a snippet of text and pass it to the API via a keystroke with a program like Textexpander. The link would come back and be dumped into the clipboard for easy sharing. Thanks again

Simple, API calls, markdown...incredibly handy and brilliant in my mind. Kudos on the app. Pastie has this capability, but is it possible to slip some text to the API via a shell script and bounce back the url?

Top three apps I would love to see this integrate with: 1. Omnifocus 2. Textexpander (better than at the moment) 3. Clyppan Dropbox, you all deserve a beer.

Last sentence: "It's a viscious cycle of disappointment - grab the first interesting person you meet there and go somewhere else for coffee." is completely dead on. People are beyond shallow at 99.9% of these events but they keep on coming

The one thing that is difficult for people is setting up a self hosted WP blog. Us here, myself, and other tech people know how it is done; however, most people don't know the ins and outs (let's be honest, SQL isn't brain surgery). Postero

I am surprised no one has brought up NGmoco? They are a gaming company and got heavy backing from Angels / VC's from their start (it seemed like it at least).
