To some extent yes, but advances have got to the point that spatial separation isn't nearly the handicap it used to be. Take Apple manufacturing for instance. They hardly ever carry an excess inventory.

It looks like a great collection of experiences and stories. I also latched onto the Lean Startup genre and didn't immediately understand the programmer/web architecture distinction. Also, in the subtitle blurb you say, "Startup Founders Op

This could have been boiled down to: People don't spend very much time reading job abs. They focus on title, company, and salary. Additionally, companies could be clearer in their descriptions. This sounds like common sense, but throw a hea

They're hardly free in this model. That's one of main points in the article. The creator of said MOOC charges a licensing fee for their usage. The smaller institutions see this as a slap in the face as they're then essentially expected to g

Great example of the old adage: you'll never know if you don't try. Interesting title as it's slightly misleading at first, but ultimately truthful.

This is just the growing pains of two extremes that will ultimately best function in some form of compromise. All too often the argument is framed as "replace professors" etc, but it doesn't have to be so binary.

It's a slippery slope, but I don't think they're directly claiming the cause of sexism. Instead, the point they're claiming is: "Women descended from plough-users are less likely to work outside the home, to be elected to parliament or to r

I applaud him for going through with it. In the end though, it seems that he fell victim to the same flaws as before. The internet isn't the enabler, but it definitely helps things scale.

Interesting point. Are we wanting the phone (i.e. the manufacturer) to brick the device when it's been perceived as stolen? I had always thought of cellphones like bikes and assumed that there'd always be some inevitable amount of theft, bu

Great point to expose some of the challenges you may face working in any job burdened by an institution, but I don't think this is the best anecdotal evidence. Also, in the roughly 5 years since this was written, there have been numerous ef

I think it boils down to critical mass. There are more and more people with an increase of quality. In addition, the overall community aspect developed by remote students has really taken off. I don't think you can look at it so much as "ho

We're a long ways from that point, but you're right. There's currently a "rush" on getting educational materials as content. I think it'll take a couple more years to really polish up the content delivery strategies, but it's rapidly develo
