Didn't apply but here's my thoughts. I know a number of YC founders and YC rejections. Don't quit, I see too many people not continuing without YC which essentially tells YC that you wouldn't have been a fit as YC is the first hurdle, not t

I know lots of HN users attended our first event and it went down a huge success. This time we've got three founders speaking, one a YC founder. There is no age limit, there was a diverse age range last time. Tickets are £5, including all t

I think if apps becomes the default platform for mobile reading then something is broken. There are no standards, each book has to take up a slot on my phone and if I no longer want a book but want it stored on my device.

Yeah, very interesting business. I think the option to post to a wall might be interesting. Part of giving a gift is the social gratitude that you have given a gift. Which is why these 'pay for virtual gift' apps in Facebook even exist and

This is the kind of business where your competition really doesn't matter. They can't take away from your business very easily, as in they can't make deals with certain partners to cut you out and being first to market or having lots of lev

Annoying story, either way shouldn't cause any huge problems. Was the event launch? fits the profile.

What's the IRC channel? I suppose this does show one flaw, if it isn't immediately obvious how to access a point of contact.

Seems to be slightly inspired by kickstarter. Been in the same office as Flattr, has a lot of potential but I don't think they're going about fixing tips in the correct way yet.

Path actually did what you said, supposedly. Dave Morin reportedly paid the staff through some rough times, since then they came out of it better with a new product release. Their team is very experienced and doubt they'd do that kind of mo

I think they were trying to take on Tumblr in the earlier days but were never able to. They then tried to create a Path like product which was for families to use but kept all of the old features so it got quite confusing from a users persp

Tim Cook said the other day that the iPad is helping the Mac gain marketshare. That tagline is telling all of the iOS users. You liked your phone? Why not try a computer that integrates with it perfectly.

I see what you mean and agree. Don't let your eye off the prize. Once you get a lot of press you get distracted. If Mark Zuckerberg had a lot of press at 16 would he have got this far? Then again this is the same for anything. People on rea

I think it's good social credibility, although this doesn't really work on sites like TechCrunch where they'll get a similar amount of engagement each time. It's like a Hacker News upvote.

Why? Because there are young founders or something else? There always has been and these (and many other) people have been building products before there was any mention of the second bubble.

I know many young founders doing all of this and not creating huge hype around themselves. I do agree with your points but you can't put all young founders in the same boat. Playing devils advocate, if it gets you users, press, etc why not?

I've been to HackerNews meetups around the world and the London meetup is one of the biggest and best in my opinion. With more than 400 attendees a month, they sell out usually too.

Great piece, I wrote something similar on Google+ recently but you've summed it up better than I did. Pinterest could create real social shopping and users want it. They'd love to to be able to purchase the items they repin. That would be e
