The dom0 kernel is responsible for talking to devices such as a disk or a NIC, yes, be that Linux, NT, *BSD, etc. The hypervisor is typically responsible for enforcing isolation of compute, memory, etc. The line does blur - for example Hype

Hyper-V is similar to Xen. The hypervisor runs on bare metal, the Windows root is akin to your dom0 on Xen, and your guests are your domU.

You can configure Linux to run without an MMU - it seems like that should be doable?

Yeah there are some nice enough ITX cases with HDD bays [0], but any comparable replacement ends up relatively expensive, so it just hasn't made sense. [0] - https://www.u-nas.com/xcart/cart.php?target=product&

Are you stuck with their software though? I've ended up pretty deep down the NixOS rabbit hole...

I'm still running an 8th gen HP micro server, but I would run something else if I could get >=8GB memory and 4 SATA ports for relatively cheap. I haven't seen anything that gets me there yet though.

This kind of pushed me away from HA. I've ended up using integrations built using hc [0] to bridge devices to HomeKit, either existing or ones I've built, and then using Promtheus to collect metrics. It's not something that &

Recently my Hue bulbs have decided to sometimes all show as unavailable in HomeKit, which is annoying. They normally revive themselves in a few minutes but I can’t figure it out. Unfortunately no other home automation platform (Google, Amaz

Yeah I agree here, I used to find Nix somewhat unintuitive but I have now managed a few non-trivial projects. One being to package Xilinx ISE as a flake [0], and another to build an immutable Linux image using busybox and runit [1]. For the

It’s obviously anecdotal but I’ve found the Nix community extremely supportive and haven’t really had that experience when asking questions. I typically stick to IRC but I have asked my fair share of dumb questions without any replies I’d c

Wow, that's awful. I wonder who's idea it was? Is it doing anything more than checking user agent (trivial to spoof), because if not that seems entirely hostile.

I agree, this seems likely to be a couple folks at Apple trying to be helpful rather than a real policy. If Apple were serious about helping open source efforts they could, for example, release the documentation for their different peripher

The C extension is that, an extension. A RISC-V core with the C extension should still support the long encoding as well. There is no 16-bit variant specified, only 32, 64 and 128. There is an E version of the ISA with a reduced register se

These are being made by Dialog and looking at the tools appear to be a relative of the GreenPAK devices. They were essentially very very small mixed signal programmable logic devices but the data sheets detailed every bit in the bitstream.
