On RISC-V it doesn't have to be true microcode. You could trap and emulate in M mode, transparently to the running OS.

I work at Microsoft on the hypervisor. The hypervisor and the NT kernel are mostly C - as are many other kernel mode components.

At least that required hardware access. If you had an exploitable bug in say some GPU firmware, then you'd realistically need to disable accelerated graphics everywhere no?

I suspect part of the issue was that until Visual Studio 2015 MSVC did not have a stable C++ ABI [0]. [0] - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/porting/binary-compat-...

LLVM/Clang does mostly support the MSVC C++ ABI today - https://clang.llvm.org/docs/MSVCCompatibility.html . I've not used it for anything major but in my limited experience it does work. Native PDB generatio

They’ve also allowed Rosetta 2 in Linux VMs - if they are serious about supporting those use cases then I think it’ll stay.

I went down this path. Yes, Windows includes an inbox USB audio class driver, but it lacks support for implicit feedback. The MOTU interface does not have a feedback endpoint, and relies on implicit feedback, so the inbox driver doesn'

You can configure Fastmail to do that, but I guess it would be in reverse. I have some old Google accounts (old student email and pre-custom domain gmail) configured to forward mail to Fastmail, and then Fastmail configured to send email vi

If you're looking for a new provider I'd vouch for Fastmail. I switched from Google's free plan back when they killed Inbox, and I've been pretty happy with it.

I work for MSFT and have been using an SPX as my primary device for a little over a year. I haven’t had an issue with user space applications, but I do have an audio interface that doesn’t work because the vendor (MOTU) doesn’t ship ARM64 d
