I second the computer history museum. It's really great, and free. I went with my family at my mom's behest and told them all "listen, I'm a computer dork so I'll like this, but don't blame me if you all hate it, I'm not forcing you to do

another point not mentioned is the benefit to society out of this automation. It makes products cheaper. This means although people may make less money, they are able to buy more with that money. This is the old "would you rather be a ri

I completely agree, except in the case of VCs. When you're dealing with partners or customers, "bringing the CTO" in to a conversation sends a message to them that you are serious about the partnership. You may be the only person on the te

I agree. When I was looking at apartments and was using walkability, I didn't think it had the sophistication I was looking for, such as using yelp to rank to get a weight of a walkable location, your sugggestion. Also, it seemed to limit

I'd just like to second what huxley said about not getting down on yourself for forgetting unix commands. If unix hacking isn't mission critical to your job you tend to not get the reps in these commands to make them automatic. Make googl

I agree, that's the easiest crude way to do it. The only problem will be is if you're trying to make an app where people supply their numbers in order to get an SMS, because you don't know the carrier. To get around that, afaik, there is:

I can choose in the privacy settings who sees what I'm tagged in. Specifically, I can say that tags are only seen by me, which would effectively turn off tagging. Can I do this with groups? I've tried, but can't seem to find it anywhere

From what I can tell, there are no privacy settings, and you can be added to a group without your permission. My friend just did a test where he created a group, added me, and it showed up in my feed to others without any confirmation from

I think the key phrase in this post, and what other commenters seem to be missing, and what the hard part of making any changes will be, is "without loopholes". That is the reason the tax code is hard. It's also a small reason(1) wealthy

I should first state a bias that I really dislike Greg Easterbrook as a writer for ESPN. That being said: This article is terrible. His main thesis is that you don't have to lower academic standards in order to be successful at football.

High Frequency trading is not the same as flash orders. The title was a screwup by the tech. The actual title was putting a "U.S. Proposes Ban on ‘Flash’ Trading on Wall Street": http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/18/business/18regulate.htm
