As an iPhone fanboy and iPhone app developer, I absolutely welcome the first Android phone to market! Gogo G1! I want an aggressive competitor to iPhone. iPhone isn't perfect and having a great competitor can only drive Apple to making th

A beautiful hack was my first thought and then -- ugh, let the exploits begin?

I may be one of the few hackers that loves marketing as much as I do programming. I often split my reading time between both subjects. (And personal development.) For me, marketing is exactly like hacking code. Except that it's hacking for

Ding, ding. That's why Apple is winning mindshare now, because they are invested in the complete experience, from obsessive design of the hardware to focus on simplicity and elegance in the software.

Interesting. The real issue question may lurk here: Did the developer do it because its in his job description or because he felt strongly that he wanted to communicate with the client in that way? And how does that change things?

Great article. For folks that don't understand what depression feels like, an article like this is great. I think a good explanation of depression for someone that has never really experienced it is: "Take the worse day of your life. Feel t

So far, Apple has done a pretty poor job of managing the store. Look at all the '...zomg, you're charging for this!!?!!1!eleven' "review" posts. I'm hoping they throw someone at the project that has some common sense.

YOU know what would be really useful? To have an expert Emacs user do a screencast of himself doing standard programming stuff. I think that would make it really obvious how these types of editors are.

I think that trying to gauge user load for a startup is about as accurate as figuring out the financials five years in advantage. There are lots of questions: what will the servers be doing? Transcoding video is going to take lots of horsep

What's the angle for actually getting folks to use this browser? It's taken years to get mom-and-dad to using Firefox.

It is amazing how entirely frustrating this is to developers. We are using a new platform and this is the point that we need access to as much information as possible, and this is the period where Apple is being most restrictive.

I love the App Store, but folks who "review" stuff that haven't bought it ("wow, the price is too high, so I'm going to give it 1 star!" or "this app should be free") drives me absolutely insane. In a straight-jacket, on the 13th floor of t

The human brain prefers the dumbed down language. That's why people take trash novels to the beach and not Scientific American. Look at any novel and notice that nearly all the dialogue uses the word "said". Amateurs always switch this out
