Interesting idea. 5% of any company is a huge chunk, especially for just a few hours of work! (In one company I founded, I only held 10%.) If you win and these guys exit, you stand to make a few dollars.

Is the only general solution to this problem: 'more edge servers'? Or is there another technology that could be really helpful for this type of event?

Over at the peepcode, they have a nice video for explaining this: http://peepcode.com/products/screencasting-on-the-mac . Not free, but very good.

No clue what this company does -- but I really dislike the word 'nerd'. To me, a nerd is someone that is socially challenged to the point that people tend to look down on him. Obviously, I prefer 'hacker'. Even if the rest of society doesn'

"Don’t blow anything into the Cloud that you don’t have a personal copy of." I think most of the article could have been compressed into this. It opens up a useful business model for companies to get into a person's "cloud" and back things

You have to give some points to his speech-writer magicians. I don't know who wrote this speech, but that person is very good at getting the points across that his administration wanted the people to hear -- but could also could hear Obama

I think it clues you into the president's general thinking. Obama tended to use the word 'nation' and Bush liked the word 'freedom'. If you didn't know who was speaking and you saw 'health', 'Africa', 'AIDs', you might assume a scientist or

Agreed, both the TED video and her book were amazing. If you are the kind of person that wants your reality expanded, take a look at what she is up to.

It brings up a good question -- is an essayist obligated to read people's responses? Or do you hire someone to filter out negative responses? (Not necessarily opposing viewpoints, just reddit level commentary.) I can understand how demorali

For everyone writing articles like these, this is an excellent example on how to get people into a technology. Instead of giving them 15 commands to try to figure out, you hand them three. When they get these three, you give them another si

Often, simple growth in a company will create a messy schema. Version 1 is often clean, but as you iterate and more functionality is added, the schema often undergoes a hideous transformation from museum-piece to something not that.

Why not create a framework that is not platform specific, like AIR? What are the great hooks into the OS that are so necessary that a person can't write an app thats run on all three major platforms (or at least have the option to)?

It's one thing to build a prototype. It's an entirely different ballgame to put a prototype into production. Someone has to print out boards, solder stuff on the boards, burn an OS on a drive, order parts from suppliers, and have a rigerous

If he was hacking ExtJS like he mentions in the article, it makes perfect sense. ExtJS forces you to have a good IDE. It has some of the most troubling code styles I've ever seen. (It is deeply nested Javascript.)
