I don't understand the problem with the client apis. If you're working with .net, you should have access to an xmlhttprequest library. Building and reading xml to talk to a REST api shouldn't require a specific API library. Unless of course

Just imagine some sort of ProTools, Ableton, FinalCut, or other interface on the iPad, connected to a Mac via USB. Or by wireless. Or a virtual Kaos pad :)

Exactly. I think that could very well kill it for most people, but he already has an ipod and a computer fast enough to run itunes to sync. But those folks that don't? Hopefully Apple wises up on this one. Of course we all know why they w

Yeah but that's your family. In my house, Kid #1 slings a macbook and a netbook with no problem. Kid #2 is 2. She loves looking at pictures on the iPod. Kid #2 will be hacking soon enough. But that's the environment I created, and I guess

You're stating it's not useful to you . You're not the target market for the iPad. I personally don't have much of an interest in the iPad, but I'm not willing to go out and say that nobody else will. You could care less. But you know bett

The only thing I can say in response to this is that I see that my dad uses his iPhone to surf the web much more than he uses his computer, and he's interested in a bigger screen to do so. He's in his 60s, and he's actually not buying anoth

I'd love to know this too. I have a need for something similar to this situation and I'm interested in what he's doing. I would love to see some example code on how the file upload actually works.

There are plenty of those. But there are also plenty of smart people who are willing to pay more because they understand the value. It's been my experience that the less someone is willing to pay you for your work, the less they value it. T

Thank you so much for pointing this out. I agree completely with this. It's hard enough being a low vision user without having other developers falsely assert that you must have JS turned on to use "the new internet".

There are a lot of web application developers out there don't have a clue how to build accessible web applications. JS is not required to log in to sites, nor is it required to send data back to the server. But devs do it because they see

But see that's kinda stinky cos it's not semantic. You're not embedding the video element in the document so it can describe the content. It would be really cool if the js somehow could remove the video element or something and add it back

They're not going through conniptions. A markup reader already can display images with the <img> tag, and video is to the web what images were in 1995. However, the spec has an easy fallback - anything inside the video tag will be d

I had to use Jekyll the other day for something relatively small and it frustrated me, but that's because I've been using StaticMatic ( http://staticmatic.rubyforge.org/ ) for about a year and, let me tell you, it's the bees' knees. The ca

Even if you don't get into the TDD stuff he evangelizes, it's a pretty darn good read. It has some really thought-provoking things to think about in terms of how to write your code. I wouldn't dismiss it offhandedly.

I have to agree with Jon. Really, once you get into the cycle, and you write them first, it doesn't tend to add much time. It does, however, really hurt your productivity when you start doing TDD. It's akin to the hit you take when you move

Your point about typing is well put. However Ruby has strong typing, but has no compiler to check. So you're gonna have tests for that, but the existence of a compiler and strong typing enforced by said compiler is not an excuse to avoid te

The Rails community does tend to be a bit more interested in the "new shiny", but the heavy weight placed on testing has done wonders for improving the quality of the work I do. As for automated testing and TDD being considered one in the s

Have you ever stopped to think that one of the reasons that people evangelize TDD is because it has worked for them and they want to share that with you? Here are things TDD gets me in my everyday work: * I don't have to refresh the web pag
