Andy Lester's book "Land The Tech Job You Love" ( http://pragprog.com/titles/algh ) covers this topic in exactly the same way. I highly recommend this book. It's excellent advice, and it really is important to keep in mind - some companies

I really enjoyed that. It's something I wish I knew early in my Ruby programming experience. I've done similar things on my own but I really appreciated the approach taken here.

As with Android, it's not about how well something works, it's about having a big long bulleted list of features. Look, I want to like the iXXX alternatives. But I can't get behind half-baked alternatives. "We have voice recognition (that's

That's mine. I can't imagine writing for another publisher after hearing about all the awful things that happen to people's books. I'm very lucky. Sounds like you had a really rough time. :(

It depends entirely on the publisher. For my book, 80 characters was the line max. It was difficult for a few JavaScript things, but it just meant breaking one-liners apart into two liners, or breaking long script includes appropriately.

It is just a repetition of the "Use AOL Keyword "ID4" (for Independence Day). Walled gardens for the less technical savvy have been the norm. Outside of the hacker/coder/geek culture, has it ever really been different? Prodigy -> AOL -&

I've been playing with Mustache, as it works in Ruby and JavaScript (and something like 13 other languages.) Have to be a little careful to ensure that you only pass objects to the template, of course, so you don't bleed any language-specif

This particular example has little to do with Ruby and everything to do with the example chosen by the presenter.

The motivating factor I've seen is the fact that somehow, people got it in their head that in order to be legitimate, the "app" has to be in the App Store. This is one reason why we have a mobile app, which offers nothing we couldn't alrea

Agreed. And for some apps, where you need to work offline, native is great. But for apps that require a network connection to work, I don't see the point of a native app.

that's not the web's fault... that's the fault of most developers doing the web wrong, refusing to separate content from presentation. If mobile users only need service-type apps, the web can provide that. Programmers just have to write the

"many web apps" do. But they don't have to. That's a choice the developer makes. That's super easy to fix, too.

Anyone else bothered by the idea of a "well-crafted persona"? I'm fine with being prepared for your talk, and knowing your topic. But spending 2-3 weeks on a slide deck and crafting a "persona" for your public presence sounds a lot like som
