From your post: "These sort of things happen a lot, and they will continue to happen a lot. Like plane crashes, we can study and learn from them each time to make them less likely to happen in the future. Tor continues to improve, and

If the companies that you're interviewing for aren't accepting of the way you are, then it might be useful to question whether those companies are for you. Yes, it's difficult to think this way when the specifics of your cir

I answered this in one of my first interviews with, "My greatest weakness is my inability to focus on things for an extended period of time." The interviewer told me never to do that, but appreciated my candor and extended an off

Edit: I was wrong - you're right. Have a look at the actual DSM-V section on it (starts at p795): http://displus.sk/DSM/subory/dsm5.pdf As for how proposed criteria sets are actually recognized: Proposed Crit

I don't think they're publicizing this for dramatic effect - just that they are painfully careless with the data that they keep. Whether the tools are useful and whether people want to use them carelessly isn't the point. A b

The problem doesn't begin, nor end at identifying military bases. There's a much a larger problem going on here where individuals' privacy is being waved around for what amounts to PR.

Why not both? You can have interesting hobbies and an interesting job. For the same reason you should invest in a good bed in that it's a third of your life, you should invest in a job that interests you. Whether it's interestin

I'm not sure I agree with this. I've had on-and-off severe depression for most of my life, both during times of high disposable income and times with very limited cash. Depression with disposable income is much, much more manage

Serious question: for a transatlantic network, would it ever make sense to do something along the lines of buoy + helium balloons + laser or microwave? Or in a similar vain, would it make sense to attach microwave 'towers' to ship

No, but lots of workloads are built with latency in mind. For APIs that talk to each other in long serial chains, don't be surprised if request responses take significantly longer in many, many workflows.

Thank you for your candidness. Your experience matches my own. It's a bittersweet grace, I suppose. That said, I come from an area where for whatever reason, there was a large population of undocumented or otherwise illegal immigrants.

There's something depressing about your comment that screams dystopic to me. You're effectively reducing someone's hard work down to notches on a belt. I realize why you do it, but it still rubs me the wrong way. What a borin

Word of caution from doing exactly that: you're signalling to future employers that that's who you are now, and forever. It's a pathway to burnout if you're not careful.

No, though I've tried working with campaign teams before in Chicago. The ruthlessness (and by proxy, the system that enables such ruthlessness) of political candidates and their campaigns is something I'd rather not support.
