Blech. "Do your time" is right. Just about every recent college grad I talk to complains about how miserable their student loans are making them. Things like, "I would leave this job and do something more interesting if I di

This is actually one of the reasons why I and a lot like me advocate not going to school. There aren't enough non-judging peer groups focused on learning. The ones I've tried looked into tend to avoid the uneducated cranks. Havin

You should be impressed by professors from all sorts of colleges from all sorts of fields from all over the world already :). The internet's a beautiful thing. So many free lessons and academic papers to choose from.

Just curious, if I may.. how old are you? My generation was told without question that we need to go to school. Parents, family and teachers all repeated the same thing over and over again. Yet, the folk my age I've talked to all say &

I dropped out after two years of college and don't regret it even for a second. These days, I'm: -Doing data analysis with pandas on parking tickets just because it's fun and it helps people. -Freelancing for HFT firms and d

Hah! Yeah, right. Money corrupts more than you think. Just look at Ricky Hendon, for example. He contracts his "services" to mayoral candidates and charges a heavy, heavy penny. Hell, there's a conversation on facebook wh

Agreed. I do some minor parking ticket civic work in Chicago and found that when talking about things like painfully misleading signs, the painfully overwhelming response is, "We shouldn't protect the dumb. It's not my fault

Could there possibly be a chance that with your majestic IQ might make you a bit biased on the subject? Mind you, I have a uselessly high IQ, too, and I still think they're are an insult to hard working and bleedingly knowledgeable peo

You throw money at these sorts of companies to build knowledge and skill. You're investing in the future's economy and not the now's. It's selfish to think otherwise. Why does making money have to be intrinsic to helping

Sure. I was sent to a referral-only recruiter in finance who had a hard time finding positions for me. When I told him I got a job and how much I'd be making, he said that little gem and skulked away. Haven't heard from him since

I didn't run from google because I didn't need to! Their hiring process is so full of shit that between the interviewer and the recruiter, they somehow managed to forget two phone interviews which I left work early for both times.
