Ah yes, the "I'm not the target audience and I don't use this product, so no one else uses it" argument. I do agree with you though that social media is more about being "flavor of the month" and riding popular

I wish more weather APIs would provide websocket streams. I think it would be cool for running things against weather data in "real time" vs being rate limited by a REST API.

It would be a pretty bold move to announce layoffs in advance and to do it at some convenient time. You are basically asking ip to get stolen by people who think/know they will be laid off, especially if it is out of spite. I think its

The kneejerk reactions to the Google layoff are quite interesting in comparison to other layoffs. Meta laid off 2x the % and there was less news or general backlash, and several well known startups have laid off 15-20% of their workforce to

The thing is, some tech companies do optimize to this degree (fb, google) - except it only really makes a lot of sense for companies that have A. Capital (human and money) B. Bespoke internal tools from the server up C. Insane scale Google

This but unironically - I was at a top HFT firm and admittedly lots of SWE talent we try to get end up going to HRT (comp being equal) because they present themselves as more tech forward, due in part to articles like this. I'm guessin

Don't know why you are getting downvoted. Yes, I believe that using customer funds to punt shitcoins at a supposed "quant market making firm" is really dumb, but people here really think the people in this operation are rando

I also worked at a top quant firm, and as others have mentioned no one is a sociopath lol, but they are really smart. Also quant interviews are harder than FAANG, but not because they require math. Maybe that is the case for QR or Trading i

The implication you are making here is that quick thinking is mutually exclusive with deep thinking. Practicing deep thinking repeatedly (i.e with a good practice regimen with leetcode) in a non interview setting will allow you to naturally

I know this website generally likes to have discussions on things like this for intellectual stimulation, but is it really necessary to micro optimize exercise to this extent? I don't think there needs to be some sort of mathematical p

Based on OP's description of the interview process, I would guess so. I don't think many firms just ask "leetcode + sys design similar to FAANG interviews" besides maybe 2sigma and Jane st. I would expect to see C++ triv

You haven't seen a firm like Jane Street, Citadel/CitSec, HRT, Optiver, Jump, IMC, and so many more. Quant firms aren't just hedge funds anymore, they can also refer to market makers whose primary edge is not just models and

Correct, but in this particular context, the top level comment used "Facebook" to refer to the collection of products under the "Facebook" (meta) umbrella. So saying "No young people use Facebook" implies that

Why do people always bring this up when people talk about "Facebook"? Whenever I see people use "Facebook" used to describe the company, I think of all the products they offer, not just facebook.com. With that being said

You know, on HN I at least expected some nuanced discussion about this idea more than typical Reddit threads, but even here it devolves into "Tencent has a stake in Reddit, everythings censored, China Bad." Think constructively he

I have been using just uBlock Origin since chrome does not have noScript, but I am pretty sure uBlock Origin has the ability to block javascript, which I have on by default.

It says on the homebrew website that "Homebrew installs packages to their own directory and then symlinks their files into /usr/local." Is this still technically assuming ownership of /usr/local, and if I chose
