I think age is definitely a factor, between the ages of 19 to 24 most people have a technical brilliance but don't have the mental experience to deal with emotional stress that comes with failure and increased demands.

Reminds me of a time i had a similar bug.The more i tried the more i found it hard to discover the bug.One approach i usually use is to take a timeout and relax.But in your position there was no time for relaxing.

I think it all comes down to the saying that "a tool is as good as it's user",you can have the latest hardware,software but it makes no sense if they don't add to your productivity or they slow you down instead of helping achieve your goal.
