What is the evidence that reddit is taking the 150 million for censorship? There was a post here that said that reddit was being valued at like $3 billion. Relative to that, 150 million is a tiny amount. Also, Tencent isn't equivalent

This is a better one, and even includes questions on how people feel about subsidies: https://poll.qu.edu/new-york-city/release-detail?ReleaseID=2...

Weren't most of the subsidies through the already existing "Excelsior program"? https://esd.ny.gov/sites/default/files/Excelsior_Overview_20... I'm just confused about what people want .

As someone that did my internship in Data Science, if I were to go back and do it again, I would choose Software Engineering instead. Don't get me wrong, I really liked my position and my team, and loved what I did everyday. Career-wis

After reading the paper that this article was based on, this article and title feel sensationalized. It's not that the evidence of loss aversion was wrong, or statistically invalid, but just may point to different underlying factors or

Agree that bayesian approaches would be better here, but disagree that running experiments for preset lengths is a mistake. In a realistic scenario for us, bayesian and frequentist approaches will probably converge to a point that's cl

I'm curious about the wording "effects are truly null". I was always under the impression that you can never really "accept the null", but rather "fail to reject the alternative".

I would be shocked if it were as low as 57%. As an intern, I found that the analysts in charge of A/B tests often didn't have a background in science or running experiments, and didn't really care. There were a couple of data

It's not impossible, but I think it's way, way less likely. The thing with YouTube alternatives is that they have to be at least as good as YouTube. Creators will only go where their audiences will go, so a site that doesn't

Not sure why this was downvoted, but maybe it came off a bit rude or critical. I'm not trying to criticize DeDeo, but I did a quick skim of his work and couldn't find that much overlap between what Google Brain does and his resear

I don't know much about Simon DeDeo, but is there any reason that I should believe that he can make a fair assessment of Google Brain/Facebook/DeepMind?

Usually I like Snowden, he seems to be fairly level-headed about most things. This seems like a bit of a nothing statement though. No evidence to back up his statement, no call to action. I was thinking about reasonable ways to protect pers

It's mildly ironic that the number 1 criticism against Facebook privacy concerns comes from a leaked anonymous source of the CEO's private texts. Of course you could say that Zuckerberg is getting a taste of his own medicine, but

I really like what's offered by Jupyter Lab. It's in alpha right now, but I haven't had too many problems with it. It allows you to open text files, terminals, and notebooks in the interface.

There has always been misleading information, but that's not a good thing. Growing up, I think the promise of the internet was that with a more decentralized source of information we'd be better equipped to see and understand what
