This comment thread is hilarious. Split down the line of the people who are like (let kids be kids, let them have fun) and the other group being concerned about the general welfare of everyone else. I suspect the kids do whatever they want

Id agree it splits both ways. I think in the short run it can be super fun but once you expand your thoughts to the long run it takes the steam out of rediscovered joy of discovery and creation. Its almost like it reignites novelty at thin

Like building on quicksand for dependencies. I guess though the argument is that the foundation gets stronger over time

Fusion isn't in our lifetimes. Its been 10 years away since the 50s - only to get more R&D grant funding for budget building. If it happened it would be a huge game changer for our economies but it is far away from deployment let

While that is true that there is a lag time to deploy nuclear - that is a vestige of the last 40 years of regulating it out of existence. That has changed - technology has improved and regulatory is under scrutiny. The difference is that

That article really needs a pre-and post fixing his house. I find it hard to believe that stat you provide -- seems like a bit of a shiny lure without much merit. Maybe if CO2 PPM wasn't so high I could make sense of it.

Nuclear will save the day in combination with clean tech. Clean tech on its own is too slowly to be meaningfully impactful by the time we need it.

Thorium is inefficient. And its related to steam in that steam converts to heat and power. Differentiates considerably on the front end. Nuclear solar and wind are all natural complements. This stupid this or that argument only empowers

I get that - but also solar should be cheap. If we lower the cost of power we knock off a lot of the bad externalities of power production and allow people to be more inventive with their power use. Agreed - a lot of the inverters do some

Glad to hear it - but cost of renewable energy isn't the software or hardware locked behind vendors. Its installers, wholesalers and permitting. Pricing is set to about where homeowners will be willing to pay and installers will make

New subscription model coming to plastics! Products last only 13 weeks. I know - long lived plastics are bad. We need some kind of middle ground thats as cheap as the current plastics and doesn't last as long.

Thanks - sounds like it was some reworking after building out the original story line to make the rest of it work. I enjoy the storyline that doesn't have to be tied into the main arc (ie trolls or fairy-tale adventure component).

Clarifying question -- what do you mean Gollum was not yet a Hobbit? I don't think he ever was - but a river folk before the ring deprived him wasn't he? I never read first edition so I suspect there are some differences as you

I'm curious how they define AGI technically. Seems like you would want that to be a tight definition.

Depends what you are optimizing for -- roof collapse in a high snow load local or the level of efficiency for thermal properties. You can drive for high efficiency of your thermal properties but when your roof collapses those efficiencies

This article is a bit painful to read. It should be lessons from living in the remote wildnerness in winter. Pretty much all those problems are relative to rural infrastructure and poor home building. If you live in an area with heavy

Fun idea! It really seems to go for the block by block design. I see some other ones that are a bit more divergent but not successful. I wonder what its internal reward function is striving for.
