In the US cash is more convenient for paying dinner. Instead of the awkward dance of check -> put card -> bring back -> tip. You just pay it with tip, can easily round up or down a bit...

I had a BMW with encrypted CAN or very similar to what that would be. Would refuse to use a new module unless you had the dealership key. Which my mechanic managed to get from his friend at the dealership but still... Needless to say, never
