This is true. There can still be some funding for recreational aesthetic mathematics, like you can get some funding for various art projects or philisophy, literature, poetry, general humanities and community-building projects or sports fun

Society doesn't do anything of the sort. This is just diffuse irrational thinking. People invest their wealth where it will make the most profit for them and if a marginal dollar investment into the regular iPhone brings more profit th

Very annoying that AI is this new virtue signaling topic. I guess it's a step up from a few years ago when it was about naming branches, but it's annoying. Libreoffice is free software that's the big point of it. You can mod

Unlikely to be near that polish and feature completeness. If you ask "then what's the point?", for now the answer is the license and the source availability.

It's FLOSS (GPLv3). There are very few free software video editors. Another good one is kdenlive, which a few years back I liked better that OpenShot.

Aside, but IP is a propaganda term. These laws are not property rights, their purposes are varied and usually have the wider public as the beneficiary in their reasoning for existing, it's not like ensuring right to actual property.

Yeah you can call a degree whatever you want. You could also call the excavator operator an excavator engineer. It doesn't change their power lever inside the org.

There is asshole and user-hostile design that doesn't quite rise to Nuremberg levels where "I was following orders" obviously didn't and doesn't work. But below a certain level it does work.

In case of conflict of conscience/taste of that sort, resignation is the proper action and finding a job that better aligns with one's values. If you suspect legal violations, you can also file a police report.

Yes, because it's not real engineering. The field is too variable and fast paced to be like civil engineering etc. Those have well defined codes because it is physics constrained. Each construction must be done separately at high cost.

Very strange worldview you have there, where engineers are somehow the conscience of the world, holding back greedy managers from breaking the law. Assessing whether a feature is legal isn't something an engineer can or should do.

Outrageous cartel then. For such amounts there would be plenty who would have intellectual chops to do the job, driving the price down. Legal costs are nowhere close to this outside the US.
