I don't think your lack of understanding entitles you to demand someone write a 2000-word essay for you. But, briefly, many of the points in Road can still be right with the conclusion being wrong. Yes, data is more important than computer,

We should treat it as a document delivery and linking system, as it was designed to be. Currently, the alternative application delivery platform is the App Store, the runaway success of which is neatly proving the point that the web just is

So why is their platform the only one to get special treatment? Safari also has a (better, faster) native PDF viewer, why not hand off to it too? Don't like this precedent of funnelling the web via their servers and translators unless you'r

Great, yet more formats that I have to try and get around Google Docs with. Worst of all is PDF: Some of us have browsers and platforms that don't hate the format, and viewing PDFs natively in Safari/Chrome is a million times better than se

This would be great for use inside our company, but only if it's on the Yammer model where everything is company-private. Don't want staff to have to go through hundreds of external groups, just want them to see ours. If Convore is like IRC

Pretty glad there are already great native apps out there. Lowest-common denominator remains lowest-common denominator whether or not it's done for a principle.

See my point below: it has to only support WebM, and they're not brave enough to do that against iPhone, esp if they had to kill the Flash support we've heard so much about.

Yes, YouTube would have to switch to WebM -- ie no support for serving any other codec -- for that to be true. Which is effectively turning off YouTube for every browser and device on the web today. Are they going to do that? No chance. S

The content is all in h.264 because it works in 99.9999% of places. You can make every browser support webM tomorrow and that still wouldn't be a compelling reason for publishers to add WebM in favour of the status quo. The only thing t

Yes, this is all very true. If I'd thought "Jobs matters" was going to be so controversial I would have prepped the examples better! Even if they were minor, I think they show a tendency that Apple has, and always has, that very few people

The Pro hardware will have been setup in advance, but the pricing will be done very close to launch, and the launch was a couple of months after he left. The MacBook that was a MacBook and then a Pro is a much more telling example, which yo

Thing is, we already know what Apple is like without Jobs, and frankly it reverts to type very quickly. Last time he was off on medical leave, they brought out a new Mac Pro that was massively more expensive than the model it replaced (to a

That's such an uncharitable reading I don't really know where to start. It's a bad decision because its only real-world consequence is to entrench Flash even further. It does that by ignoring the state of play of video content , which is w

It's not the actual codec that matters. It's that if you have one given codec end-to-end throughout your entire workflow and it lets you drive everything from broadcast to mobile phone, why would you then support an oddball outlier without

Google's assumption: People will add WebM encoding to their already complicated video workflows What will actually happen: Chrome will get served h.264 wrapped in Flash. Lose all round, then.

This is a bug in Angry Birds, not the DRM. You're supposed to check the receipt's bundle ID actually matches that of your app, and they didn't. If you try this with other paid-for apps it will fail.

iTunes is multi-window -- double-click any playlist to see. Even if it weren't, you don't want it to quit when you close its last window, you want the music to play on. The distinction is arbitrary, though. There are plenty of single-window

I think you're missing the point. The UI isn't autogenerated -- it's the only bit that isn't. (Aside from DirectToWeb, which is a whole different thing). What WO allows you to do is save on all the backend work and focus entirely on the d

Yes, I agree. That's why I think we should do better. Dreamweaver really doesn't come close to what we should be doing in terms of visual and coding tools to let designers and developers work together.

Ever actually used WebObjects? Especially in the objective-C days this is exactly what it did. (What became) Cocoa has pervasive MVC all the way through. Turning a WO app into a NS app was a matter of working on the V, as it should be.
