My favourite piece of advice here: | Sometimes, incidentally, it's much easier in these transforming events to figure out the losers. You could have grasped the importance of the auto when it came along but still found it hard to pick

In the UK, we have something similar to this for most of our motorway junctions, except that the traffic lights are replaced by roundabouts and there's no need for changing sides of the road. I take it all this extra complexity is just

This is pretty sweet. I should really try and understand BPMN better. I'm assuming you work on this project in some capacity: if so, you might be interested in looking at my software ( http://kite9.com ) which does automat

Really good points. I expect you're right about the expressiveness, although I don't really know exactly what you mean by this. The "buffet of abstractions" available in Scala actually put me off it. For me, there are

Martin Odersky is a clever guy, there's no doubt about that. But, at the beginning of the talk he introduces the scala compiler as having 40 steps. And he says that translating from scala to the JVM is a translation from a complex in

He means that compilers create an in-memory database, representing your code, which could be put in an actual database. Not that compilers can be used as a general DBMS. I think.

Yeah it's a good question, I think. It's a shame no one else pitched in. There are some answers on SO, but they're usually closed down as it's not the appropriate forum for this kind of debate. Nevertheless, it's

This is really two questions. Or maybe three. Can you edit it to be a single one? Personally, I'm most interested in the Grails part and I'd probably weigh in on that, but I'll see which way you take it.

I posted this on here because I was interested to learn today that although battery technology (being based on chemistry) isn't improving very quickly (certainly not exponentially like electronics does), the cost _is_, and it's th

The PageObjects tip is a really good one. Previously using Selenium you end up with a complete maintainability nightmare. I used Geb on a recent project, and I actually felt that the tests I built demonstrated a passable level of engineeri

Ok, so everyone has pointed out how insecure this would obviously be, and all the simple ways in which you could fool it. But, I'm left wondering, did the guys at mastercard never even think this through at all? This is people's

Is this really about terrorism? I have a feeling that terrorism is the excuse being used to try and surveil the public generally. Why would they want to do this? My feeling is so that they can keep control of public order. It's a my
