Seeing this right now single-handedly turned me off from the project. Of all the possible (and more plausible) conclusions that the maintainer could have had, they deduced it to be political (which is arguable) and immediately became extrem

Different needs/requirements. If there is demand for something then someone will eventually become the supplier.

I think the xz disaster would be a reason why Wasm-based plugins would be bad. People would be forced to use plugins written in a language they may not know and would not be able to audit for themselves.

From a developer perspective, Zed's licensing prevents it from being used/inspected outside of the context of other GPL projects. For example, Helix can't use nor read any of the code in Zed because it would pollute the licen

You can use a snippet LSP to work around Helix not having a built-in LSP manager. They're listed in https://github.com/helix-editor/helix/issues/395

America (and really any other non-authoritarian state) is better because it allows change. Doesn't matter where we are now. What matters is that we can change it and that the systems that exist reasonably protect that ability.

It's a green flag for me when services do this because it shows that they are taking an ethical approach to what they are providing. Too many companies throw ethics out the window and punt the responsibility to the end-user. Misinforma

Rune is not mature and is developed by a handful of people. Please check the thread I linked, literally everything you could say has already been addressed. Saying "X is better than Y" or "Why not Z?" is not constructive

I saw your comment on the thread. A. Most WebAssembly implementations are bigger than Helix itself. B. WebAssembly is immature. C. Lisp is perfectly fine. Even if you don't like it, it's not the end of the world if you have to use

See https://github.com/helix-editor/helix/issues/1970 but yeah, other editors do the same thing as Helix here.

Only case I could reasonably see an argument for is on low-end systems, but Helix isn't targeting that anyway.

It could be better for sure, but that function has been there for almost as long as the project has been open-source if I recall correctly. It probably hasn't been touched since then because it wasn't a high priority.

Ad hominem attack aside... it was chosen because they didn't see a realistic need for more than 8 spaces. Nobody has openly complained in the past 2 years Helix has been around until now, so they were at least mostly right.
