Part of the answer is in term C/C++ itself. C is a very popular language because the history around Unix and FFI. C++ builds on that popularity by being sort of backwards compatible with it and being what Microsoft Visual C++ supports

Arcade cabinets aren't/weren't consumer products. Nintendo switch 2 is a consumer product. AFAICT, Nintendo can't brick GameCube, N64, SNES, NES, Gameboy etc. remotely.

The web is being locked down too. See Google's proposals like the Web Environment Integrity API. Already, Google blocks sign-in's from 'embedded browsers' (webkit or electron-based browsers). The Encrypted Media Extensio

It doesn't seem right to blame this on just Apple. In developing countries Android is more common. The reason I think things are more locked down in apps/silos on mobile is part of a general trend to restrict more and more what pe

I've been thinking lately how nice it was when the Internet had lots of phpBB-like forums spread around. Each one ran by a different server with it's own rules. None of them required your ID or phone number to join. No one really

Well to be fair even if Android were completely open: In the US, your phone is still beholden to small number carriers. They get to decide what devices can connect to their network. This determines much of the hardware and software of the p

Suddenly, what Intel's CEO means by new products must deliver 50% gross profit [1], and it being too late to catch up with AI [2] is starting to be clearer. [1]: https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/semicondu

I once had an mini pc with Nvidia. I got it for Cuda dev. One day the support for it was dropped for it so I was unable to update my system without it messing things up. So regardless of Cuda I decided Nvidia is not for me. However, doing r

Xe is the name for Intel's GPU ISA . Which is used for both integrated graphics and their discreet GPUs. Ryzen is AMD's line of processors. Of which they've carved out a piece of the low-end with their integrated graphics tha

What's the significance of $5B of stock? Does that mean controlling share in Intel?

Makes a lot of sense. I guess this means no more Xe then. Also means the end for Ryzen too I guess.

It sounds like maybe Khronos should handle 3D APIs like they do with slang[1] and just host someone else's API such as Diligent Engine or BGFX and then let them govern it's development. [1]: https://shader-slang.org

I wish them the best of luck. I never used Neon since it was a rolling release distro. This one I also won't be using because it immutable and relies on Flatpaks which are very buggy. Standalone binaries or AppImages are fine with me b

I don't think Mojo can solve the two language problem. Maybe if it was going to be superset of Python? Anyway I think that was actually Julia's goal not Mojo's.

I've looked into making Python modules with Julia and it doesn't look like that is very well supported right now. Where as it's a core feature of Mojo.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I plan to prototype in python and then speed up the slow bits in a low level language. I've narrowed my options to C++ and Mojo. C++ just seems like a safer bet but I'd love something better and mor
