Given this is meant to be repairable and maintainable, I am disappointed that there is only a one year warranty. If this Laptop is really built to last, offer a longer warranty that proves the company making it truly believes it will be hig

There is a huge amount of outrage in this thread but some people actually do things for reasons other than money. For example, volunteer work is very popular and common and is unpaid. Why are people not outraged about someone volunteering t

I should also mention that even imperceptible to the human eye traits of diamonds like clarity and color, above SI or near-colorless affect value and pricing despite the fact that nobody can tell with the naked eye in normal conditions whet

I find it ironic that many people in this thread are extolling the virtues of lab grown diamonds, as they are nearly indistinguishable from natural ones and cost around 50% less. But they still cost quite a bit, whereas cubic zirconia is al

Last I checked, lab grown diamonds had no fluorescence. If that is still the case, it might make fluorescent diamonds more valuable than non, as a sign they are more “natural”. Though in the past fluorescence in diamonds was considered a ne

I don't know if I have a perfectionism problem, but I may have a self-improvement problem. I want to get better at everything I do, so I obsess over what the best or different ways of doing X are. Most people agree that perfectionism i

It is probably considered gossip to discuss such matters, though I often see "person X has quit Y" to which I would say is of similar newsworthiness.

My $1200 7 year old Miele dishwasher stopped working a few months ago, with the “Intake/drain” light on red when starting a load. Dishwashers during the pandemic were sort of scare due to massive home remodeling demand, and the profess

It seems tempting to solve technological problems with more technology, but my experience is more technology is more problems. The password manager will update/ask for updates. It will ask about auto fill or saving passwords, etc. The

Tldw: the machine throws obscure error codes (too viscous, failure to heat to proper temps, etc) and can “lock out” the operator, who has to then call an authorized service technician that bills hundreds of dollars for repair. Any attempt t

A few more reasons why print debugging is used. If you are debugging multiple things at once, you’ll have breakpoints set that aren’t necessarily needed at the moment, meaning you have to continue a bunch of times to get to the right spot.

What’s interesting is that Tesla succeeded in spite of its dorkiness. Yes, you may think it is a “normal” looking car now, but sedans were dying, hatchbacks were dying, and you would be made fun of mercilessly if you had a spoiler on your S

This is all completely orthogonal to the exterior styling and cladding. If you look at many of these electric vehicles, they have odd two-tone color schemes (eg i3), strange C pillars (Leaf, Prius, Bolt), and some twisted attempt by the des

I love the sentiment but you often see these promises broken, so I won’t hold my breath. Imagine someone offers him a billion dollars for the site. Do you really believe he would refuse and hold to these promises? Would you?

There just isn’t incentive for most people in jobs to take a sick day. Deadlines don’t get moved if you take 2 sick days. Meeting rescheduling is a pain, etc. There’s just not incentive alignment.

As someone who wants to try his code, this is easy to say. But more often than not, hacks and imperfections in the code will be pointed to and laughed at. Companies interviewing him might think less of him, etc. They will get angry with him
