I think there’s something off with the render scaling, because the pixels are enormous even when I set it to a non-fixed sized font (Monaco). I had to set 2x scaling and then it looked better but only because the text was enormous. I recall

Avoiding the legal definition being fought over here for a second, putting "End of story." and "Period." in your blog post as chief legal officer is fairly unprofessional and a bit astounding when you're going up ag

The thing is, people often start with a previous salary and a lifestyle/saving goals such that they have some expectations. Telling people to not start at salary, when most people will do so for good reason, is not particularly useful.

You can do things the way you do them in C++ in Rust if you want. You could `cargo vendor`, you could fork a repo & depend on a specific commit, etc. It’s up to you have the self-control to do that though and not just shovel random depe

Yes, we should have unwrap. Rust would move towards insufferable if it did not — sort of like Go and its “you must use every variable” thing. The way forward is a feature allows static checking of whether code paths could possibly panic so

You could imagine that in quite a few states. California isn’t even on top in terms of GDP per capita (DC, MA, NY, AK, ND all rank higher, CT, WA, WY slightly below).

Nim was originally “Nimrod.” It’s probably a play on that.

This seems a bit insulting to apes, honestly. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen experiments that have shown non-human primates to be discerning with respect to cost/reward calculations.

The number of languages that have separate namespaces for the two things is very small. See all the C descendants that discarded that idea: C++, C#, Java, Rust, Go. You probably ought to just find a decent naming scheme to avoid those confl

You can spec it with or 16 or 24 GB and the CPU is going to be miles faster than your Thinkpad. Sometimes I think people just want to feel good about their purchases… It’s 5 years old, it’s okay if it’s not top of the line anymore.

I almost skipped over this because of WASM in the title. For me, WASM is neat but not actually something I need and just an extra layer for just running a program on a computer. So it's good to see it supports other targets. Now it jus

Flipping through the tutorial, given the mentions of functional-style and concision, I'm surprised the control structures aren't expressions ala Rust.

There doesn’t have to be (as much) nonsense on a personal project where you’re only beholden to yourself, can pick your own tech, etc. (I’m sure people also have less nonsense and make money from it, but I don’t right now.)

There are good reasons to do things at certain times (like polling for input or rendering) or slowing down the render loop (adjustable frame rate cap not necessarily the same as refresh rate), and that's really the end of that. Thinkin

I agree this is a very unfortunate grouping of topics. The irony is that there’s a lot of cryptocurrency stuff that isn’t even well decentralized, so it’s almost an objectively bad grouping.

Ah, I see. I figured they'd keep the input energy constant because otherwise you're not saying much at all (you could figure that the efficiency plummets and you'd be better off with a space heater).

> The prototype delivers 100% heating at 5°F at double the efficiency, and 70% to 80% heating at -5°F and -10°F So, 2 EER (2x of resistive heat) at 5F, 1.8 at -5F and 1.6 at -10F? Is that right? Seems awkwardly worded.

That's a high horse you've got there. There is a vast class of bugs that are not memory bugs and many languages where memory bugs are just not an issue.
