> Plenty of high prestige world cities like Tokyo or London or Paris aren't known for their pro sports teams. They seem to suffer little for it. For a while, the Olympics were able to basically threaten their way into huge subsidies

I believe college used to be much more about being close to the cutting edge of knowledge and research (thus why instructors have historically been research professors), whereas now it is more like an extension of high school.

Oral exams sound fantastic. Unfortunately they don’t scale. Sounds difficult for a class of 30 let alone 300.

Not the person you asked but I’d guess it has to do with managing the emotions or anxiety that lead to the bad behavior. The way I think of it is I don’t want to teach the dog to overcome negative emotions, I want to help them not have nega

By all accounts (including a friend of mine) he was a wonderful person, mentor, coach, etc. back in the day. It sounds like maybe he developed some mental issues that eventually led to both the cheating and suicide.

Irrelevant. Markets work well for society when there is a lot of competition and when winning is aligned with social good. If we can change the rules to help the second while keeping the first, it’s a win win.

Even at the startup you’re a cog in the machine. Your boss decides how you spend your time. If some of that time is on preventing bugs, and there are things you can do to get better at preventing bugs? Do those things. The rest is not in yo

There will never be fewer electric cars either. I think this is a significant concern as whether demand will outstrip suply. Hopefully charging stations will be lucrative enough, or hopefully good supply/demand competition kicks in --

#3 -- agree, the word list is also really nice. A bunch of plurals or conjugated verbs would really bring down the experience. But that would have been easy to overlook.
