"MVC ... only started getting more attention after Ruby on Rails launched around 2004" ~year 2000, MVC was all the rage in J2EE development, Struts etc. Probably was invented and even popular long before that also in other environments.

There will always be native code in one form or another. It used to be Windows applications now it is iOS apps. The web will coexist and thrive in parallell to this.

Newish Mac user here. The "feel" of mouse cursor movement is one of the few areas were Windows is superior. Years ago something like this was a big issue in Linux/X.org aswell but recently it has been fixed, atleast it feels like it for me.

I have encontered this attitude a couple of times also. Everything should be as general and generic as possible. Things should be called "meta data" instead of what enteties really are in the model. If you argument for a structured relation

You are aware that there is a difference between software bugs hitting a subset of users, and a deliberately putting in features that the battery cant support, like gigantic screens and LTE, no?

Seeing the background being drawn remind me of the Last Ninja on C64. Each screen started with the world being laid out using 2D sprites, in slow motion. Anyone know if this was done for effect or if it actually was as fast as it could be?

I use this too, but does it really have push notifications? I have always heard, and also seen, that no push notifications is the main drawback from setting it up like this.

Exactly, the same points made in this article applies to Windows aswell. Maybe Windows AV will be a few points better, but who cares? It gives users an equally dangerous false sense of security. Yet, lots of people (both techs and non-techs

Most developers learned in school to program, i.e. writing algorithms. Most development in the "business" world is not that, it is basically managing and transforming data. Something that RDBMSes and SQL is very good at. The result is that

Another advantage to this is that you can have other types of clients in parallel. For example a native iOS app could call the API directly. This native app could be made with client side web tech and packaged with PhoneGap. Would also be i

But It was very informative, as he explains what he is talking about since the definition of an ORM seems to be quite different for different people. For me it also means anything that tries to generate SQL.

After about 10-15 years working with many different systems that one way or another store their data in a RDBMS, all I can say is that I agree with what you wrote. ORM-wed code is a nightmare, 3-5 years on. When the ORM trends have shifted

Desktop UIs are generally not resolution independent, they just have resizable windows. The UI component sizes stays the same.

I have yet to se a UI system that is resolution independent (not even mentioning aspect ratio independent), that doesnt look like crap. Notice for example how the buttons in Android seem to have the wrong dimensions all the time, they sort

Some company with the 'brilliant' idea of making PC:s in C64 cases has come up atleast once a decade since the 80's. Equally pointless each time.

For my current project, a multiplayer game that runs in the browser, its essential to be able to run the same code on the server as in the client. This is how FPS games such as Unreal do it with C++. Basically the game simulation needs to r
