I disagree. Some of the worst horrors Ive seen over my carrer is systems written by developers using an ORM "So they don't have to learn SQL". I find some folks has these really strong beliefs: 1. SQL is for DBAs, Im a develo

I have been using cryptmount for years, and I can highly recommend it. It is a friendlier, more easy to use interface to the crypto functionality that exists in the linux kernel (dm-crypt)

Didn't like the article. Has your typical handwaving about "using an ORM" that will resolve all your complexities. Object Relational Mapping is a problem completely orthogonal to database migrations. I like flywaydb. For &quo

Always in these kind of articles they have to write that people choosing Apple are drones that only buy couse of the high status of the Apple brand. It can never be that iPhones actually work consistently and have software that is not "

I still have my N900 in a drawer, and I have zero interest to use it as a phone/pocket computer anymore. I really would like if it was possible to install Debian on it, and use it as a small headless network server. I remember this use

I remember from years ago writing Win32 programs, that it mostly consisted of an eventloop and you have a giant switch reacting to WM_* messages. On a deep level, does OSX apps work the same way?

These come from your iDevices encrypted backup in iCloud, not from iMessage servers. I guess if you dont use iCloud and back upp to your local iTunes on your Mac/PC, your messages are a bit more "private".

The nVidia proprietary driver (same codebase both for Windows and Linux) is chock full of optimizations for specific game exes. Today games are the benchmarks, and optimizing for that in the same way I think is very reasonable. This is not

The Linux kernel should support the receiver and xbox 360 gamepad out of the box. If its not currently I suppose this has a very high priority for fixing at Valve.

Seems like its common for Japanese consumer electronics companies to use FreeBSD as a base. For example the Panasonic plasma TVs of recent years contain FreeBSD.

Couldnt just have been the risk of not selling hardware, selling games at retails must have been just as important? Store shelves, lots of exposure, impulse buyers, etc.

One thing I dont get about maven is why the version number get embedded in the jar's filename. Everything has to be rebuilt when you switch to a new branch that has a different version number, deployed files cant just be "copied over" etc.
