Growing up during the 80s in Sweden, I, as many orthers, played the game on the Commodore 64 a lot. Until now I had no idea it was a comic strip originally :-)

Congrats for choosing the solution with the least moving parts and rejecting premature optimization and over-engineering.

Rift has two major advantages that made me choose it: 1. Doesn't require to hang stuff on walls, a single sensor beside the monitor is enough. For me dedicating a room to VR is out of the question. 2. It has built in headphones. Yes th

Anyone have ever built an application utilising row level security? In old-school systems you normally have one database user and a connection pool set up in the app with that user. Row level access is handeld with join tables to sort out w

What is the appeal with graph databases? I notice it recently has been a lot of talk about them. I dont see "graphs everywhere". In fact I find they very poorly describe real world domains. I see relations everywhere though.

Legacy systems hardcoded to Oracle; Bought from 3rd parties that companies cannot change to work with other databases. The people bribed to buy Oracle are probably long gone from the company.

Consultants that sell Oracle to customers on a regular basis get personal bonuses from Oracle. These could be personal vacation trips or cash.

All of those are no problem with the right tools. Any database IDE can debug SPs. You can unit test SPs like any other code just use a testrunner.

What about when changes are made to the schema, wont the API just be changed in that case? Wont this lock you in with very hard coupling between your db schema and public REST API?

"hard to test, debug, maintain and check into source control." Why? I have never had problem with any of these. SPs is just imperative code like any other imperative code.

Coming from iPhoto I have manually organized my photos into albums. With the new Photos app this is now broken. There is no way that I can tell if a photo has been added to an album or not. Some might be added to several albums (I do not wa

From the article: "So our strategy has been to reduce the number of relations between entities to what is strictly necessary, and occasionally to use JPA DTOs when a subset of data is needed for a rather complex entity. Such DTOs are p

I have found that the more schema you have, i.e. the more structure you have for your data, the easier migrations become, because there are no surprises.

Play framework handles this really nice without additional tools like Jrebel. Its possible to use play framework in the same way as dropwizard is used, if you just ignore Plays server side scala templates.

As long as you dont change any method signatures, sure. I think its the JVM that provides this as part of its remote debugging functionality. If you change any signatures (should be most of the time) you need Jrebel.
