Just as a counterweight to inevitable moaning about UK broadband - I am very happy with what I'm getting from Virgin Media. Rock solid, no traffic shaping, 120Mbit line for not much money is not bad at all. I was happy before as well,

Life of a programmer in investment banking can be much better in pretty much every respect compared to your typical internet startup (pay, working hours, availability of "toys" and exposure to new tech, etc.). If you're thi

Apparently, we're now calling it a "challenge". "Job" was getting a bit stale so we changed it.

Are they hoping to create Visual Basic for the new generation? Microsoft can only hope to make this as popular as VB was some 15-20 years ago.

Most debit/credit cards in the UK are now contactless, and the number of retailers deploying contactless card readers seems to be steadily increasing. It is easy and convenient, I see no need for NFC as it stands right now.

Apple really dropped the ball with multi monitor support since introducing the full screen mode. Seems like they have their sight squarely on laptops (with no external monitors) where it works really well (with swipe gestures etc.). NFS iss

You paid for the software that now resides on your phone. Have they deleted it from your phone and you have to buy the new version?

Fwiw, the same happens on my old Thinkpad x200. Remove the battery and the CPU drops to 800Mhz.

Unfortunatelly, so few people, even on this board, understand this. And the whole "artists should be poor and art should be free" idea expressed here many times is all that taken to extreme.

Three got a little bit better - no roaming charges whatsoever in a number of European countries (i.e. no data cap on my plan). It was really handy to not have to worry about loading google maps and local websites while out and about in Ital

Bluetooth keyboard does wonders for iPad. It's quite a comfortable environment for emails, text editing, etc. My old retina iPad did quite well as an occasional SSH terminal.

The whole size_type <-> size_t malarkey is thanks to STL's gremlins, but that's beyond the point. Every compiler nowadays will emit a warning about comparing/assigning signed and unsigned integers (that can be promoted
