It is to prevent/reduce the posting of large amounts of text. Big blocks of grey text are hard to read, so it discourages people from posting them. Apparently it is preferred that if you have that much to say, then you should create a blog

I also miss pattern matching when using other languages. As an aside I just had a look at what stage Reia is up to. The github page says that Reia is now defunct. ( https://github.com/tarcieri/reia ) There is also another ruby-like language

I used a spreadsheet to calculate the standard deviations. A,D and E have twice the deviation of B,C and F. (10 vs 5) The means are all the same.

And a further reason is that the Windows XP is still the most common operating system in use. People don't feel any need to upgrade, as everything works with their current browser/OS. I've used the internet at my Sister in law's (in Korea)
