kjksf summed it up nicely. Google obviously provided a ton of capital but it was Rubin, using what he learned when building the hiptop, that gave the spark to the whole project.

Doesn't seem like it was that long ago. Interesting that over time people started to believe Google itself created Android, when it's actually closer to being a hiptop successor.

Bumping can leave distinctive grooves inside the barrel and on the pins that a normal key wouldn't. They may consider these traces to be destructive even though the lock remains operational.

I have this set [1]. Though mine has a plastic handle so it was about half the price listed there. It's a nice set, quite small and very pocketable. There's something deeply satisfying about picking locks, hearing each pin tick and feeling

There is no Apple Store in Redmond. The nearest one is Bellevue which gets a lot of traffic from Seattle proper as well as from Redmond.

Spoilers Don't read if you haven't seen it yet! Saito dies at some level (if I remember right at the top dream level) and he enters limbo. Cobb goes there from the snow compound dream level but Saito has already been there 20-40 years (mayb

Can someone explain why the zero g scenes didn't cascade down through each dream level? They were feeling forces in the first dream in the van and those would go to the hotel but those sleeping there would not feel the same forces (eg lack

I learned about these in a linguistics course in college. My favorite from back then was, "The building blocks the sun faded toppled." Depending on how you are led down it, you might have two abrupt and unanticipated words at the end.

I agree with some of what you say but I don't think you can say Apple changed on including apps. They didn't include apps from the first gen due to the huge engineering effort required to successfully support 3rd parties and have the mechan

That's pretty cool, but everyone knows the second hand on the iPhone moves discretely with a little bounce rather than continuously! Kidding aside, it'd be awesome to have a tool that converts images to their css equivalent if there would b

What I mean is you could have full voice signal with no data signal and not know it if you are connected to wifi too. Most areas have at least GPRS, but you can still find some towers that are voice only. Because of this you really don't ha

When you're on wifi you have no indication of the signal strength of any other data source (3G, Edge or GPRS). It's possible the Wifi would go out and then the bars would drop, I suppose. Any signal issues I've seen have been non-wifi thoug

It doesn't have to be 326ppi to be huge news. You probably hold the iPad another 12 inches further away from your eyes than the iPhone, so a smaller, more manageable bump in ppi could mean the same 'retina' result.

Worse yet, adding those bumpers, and most cases, makes the whole 'square edge to allow the phone to sit up and act as a camera on a table' feature, er thing, not work.

Well, it is certainly easier for devs that they pixel doubled, but I don't think the resolution is hyperbole, see: http://mblogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2010/06/10/r...

I think the main reasons this is getting more press is because the resolution is over the ~300 ppi barrier that makes most eyes unable to resolve pixels. The square design of the iPhone 4 is functional (try balancing a 3GS on its side to do

I don't really think crowdsourcing app ideas is the best idea. Mostly you'll end up hearing from a loud minority. For example, there is a request for an Illinois Compiled Statute app....I don't really think that would have huge market appea
