For the viewers (us), this is the opposite of what they should do. For us, they should be showing the up/down count ratio on the video preview link itself so we could easily identify the garbage videos without even having to click on

Because a lot of the early development in these areas was done by mathematicians and physicists who weren’t programmers (and who had less exposure to languages). These are folks who just wanted an answer to a question or a premise, and the

I'm not familiar with this problem since I don't ride them. But as a motorist, their ability to accelerate quickly really isn't an issue regarding me passing them on the road.

If you're not on a road bike, and you're riding 30+ minutes, I doubt you're going that fast. You can, but you're going to arrive sweaty and tired. People just don't ride that fast on non e-bikes here in the Netherl

Imagine you're merging onto a freeway. You have limited runway before you have no more lane. The lane you need to merge into has a Tesla next to you, and some cars behind it. You could slow down and hope one of those cars behind the

I would highly recommend using some automatic gdrive backup system. If you’ve read HN for a few years, you must have seen how occasionally Google makes an automated mistake and locks or even deletes your account and its data.

In my experience driving, the car is now more likely to misjudge and not allow enough time to pass, thereby pulling back into your space while you’re still there (if you’re on a faster e-bike).

Exactly. I can spot the road bike from a distance and already assume the longer passing time.

Not a criticism of e-bikes, but I discovered an unexpected danger related to e-bikes which was much less an issue with traditional bikes: when driving a car, it's now much more difficult to judge how much time you need to pass a bike.

When I had US training in the 90s, stall and spin recovery were taught, but only stall was supposed to be practiced. I was told that spin was not because it could damage some of the instruments which have gyros. We did it anyway (in a Cessn

I wonder if this is the reason the Dutch (still) like to cut the tops off of willow trees every year or few. Just as the trees are starting to look great, a crew will show up and cut off all the branches, leaving a big fat nub on top of th

I have two guesses: 1. someone forgot they had it and (re)discovered it. 2. someone spent a few recent years figuring out how to use the current value without being subjected to significant taxation.

In an ideal world, we would all pursue that which was our own passion, without the concern of income. There’s probably enough money in the world for that if it were distributed and if we all could reduce our consumption a good bit. After a
