Some studies suggest a lot of competitive high level runners heel strike. I am not sure if any elite runners do, I've checked quite a few and I am yet to see one. I think it's about foot under your body not in front. You may land

There is just way more business now. Those businesses choose to host their website, information and communication with customers on FB/Instagram. They think it's profitable for them. It's a very arrogant view to think they ar

It's good to see more people coming out against crypto currencies. While it's clear to competent people the tech is just bad and the crypto space is worse we are far beyond "the fad will go away by itself without incurring mu

It's nice that it maximizes "growth" but it's just a curiosity. It's useful because it maximizes a utility function which might for many situations be similar to log. There is little reason to ever try to maximize g

Yeah but why would anyone care about that in real life? We don't have unlimited bets and even if we had them getting quicker to (for example) 10 billion is more important than eventually, maybe in 100 years catching up at 200b level.

It's strange to me how you overcomplicate it all by thinking about growth instead of utility of money. Once you switch everything becomes easier and more intuitive. You will also see why Kelly is not a good guideline for most cases as

You can think of an insurer as someone who provides a service of pooling resources together to help those who got unlucky. That service is worth something and is not necessarily predatory.

How do you define maximized growth and why is it important for anything if utility is not log? Shapes of utility function have everything to do with determining your bet sizes. Can you provide one reason to use Kelly that is not connected t

Kelly criterion is the solution for optimal bet size with the assumption that utility is a log function. While it's often modelled as such we know it's not perfect (utility of money is bounded or even goes downwards after certain

What if you write code that doesn't wrap but you don't want the exception or any kind of check either? That's the whole point of UB. Let the compiler optimize by assuming your integers are in range. I get that it doesn't

The imperfect play is in the mixing. Imagine you play like optimal but every time you have a mixed action of bluff or check you bluff. You won't be exploited by an optimal strategy but you will be very vulnerable vs someone who bluff c

Well, I prefer to have standard tools to check or a way to compile so it traps on the overflow. Majors compilers provide that if you value security over performance and are not sure about correctness of your logic.

I don't expect C to be portable assembler. I expect it to be a simple fast language with clear rules. I am not sure what you mean by an idiom here. I suppose you mean assembler idiom as in C it was always a simple bug in logic. Obvious

I don't think making it defined would help much. Overflowing a signed integer is a bug in logic. It would be ideal to have a crash on that. Continuing is going to be bad one way or another unless you luck out with your buggy code so th
