What studies? Empirically, ignoring wrong behaviour is a clear recipe for ending up with a completely spoiled menace on ones hands. The alternative to punishment is therefore not ignoring, it's explaining things and setting boundarie

Remaining calm and explaining things is great, as long as it's clear that this will sometimes (maybe many times) not achieve anything. I like to think that they'll think about what they were told once they calm down :-)

I don't think you're right. Kids are naturally flexible, curious and have no notion of right or wrong. They will constantly try things out and need boundaries for their own good and for the good of the family. How these boundaries

My reply where I was claiming that the comment from arinlen was manipulative was flagged, but I stand by my statement. It’s also in no way a personal attack to describe someone’s comment that way. Here’s why I claimed it’s manipulative: the

I agree with you mostly about why it would be expensive, but Teenage Engineering doesn't have a reputation for building reliable devices. I own an OP-1, owned two POs and considered getting an OP-Z only to be scared away by all the rep

Technically you’re correct and I think he should have mentioned this. Would have been interested to see what kind of arguments he’d bring forth… As I said in another comment though, making war costly is basically just waging war. Maybe it w

Mutual or one-sided exhaustion is indistinguishable from regular war until it happens and at least in this case the hope of reaching such a state is based on continuous escalation. Negotiated settlement is very broad and would include such

What media would you suggest? Surprisingly, I’ve found AlJazeera to be quite professional, if slightly biased for up-to-date news. Reports from rusi.org are interesting, but not free and some do have a whiff of opinion/cheering, which

Gas and electricity are not at all fungible for Germany or the EU. You’ve repeatedly made this claim in the thread and other commenters posted detailed reports showing the use of gas in the German economy. It’s suicidal for the EU to give

My impression is that the UN is a place where all nations come together to negotiate and communicate. Kicking nations out or overriding their vote would defeat the purpose as this would trigger several of them to leave the organization and

What will the US, UK and France do if Russia uses a tactical nuke in Ukraine? Nuking Russia because they nuked Ukraine is… very unlikely.

Maybe when life’s good it’s easy to ignore what one’s government is misspending on the military. But when job security’s low, education costs a fortune and the social safety net barely exists, asking why one’s government is sending billions

Don’t understand the hostile tone. Are you on some moral crusade that you forgot to announce? When your neighbor’s Russia, China or the US what one wants is perhaps less important than what the superpower next door wants. Ukraine and the EU

I don’t think the US wanted Ukraine to get invaded either. But they did want Ukraine to be NATO-aligned in spite of the harmful effect towards Russia’s security and despite its warnings. Morally that might make sense, but geopolitically it

Yes, it is possible to threaten or insult somebody, but this would not cause brain damage. You cannot cause cellular damage to a human’s brain by talking to them.

Most European countries do not have US troops on their soil. Hosting foreign troops means that the country has a weak military, or in the case of Germany additionally that it lost a war. It’s not exactly something to be proud of and makes t

I’ve used Jira and Confluence on-prem for many years. They’re fine, although the performance is a bit annoying and the WYSIWYG editors can get confused sometimes. I actually like Confluence, it’s a well done wiki solution.
