> I don't think I would have looked closely if the word massive wasn't there This is exactly why editorialising is bad. I don't want people to start inserting superlatives into their submissions to get more attention.

The guidelines say: > Please use the original title, unless it is misleading or linkbait; don't editorialize. "Massive" is an assessment inserted by the submitter. I agree with the assessment, but I'd rather see that

I can't see how this differs from any other article about a large, dominant employer in an area. It could be a coal-mine, theme park, or university, and there'd be a very similar comments.

They’re also easy to learn when all you want to know is syntax. What about: * dependency management and releases * deploying and running in prod * footguns that affect performance or security * libraries for helping development * language-s

The British Highway Code uses similar terminology. Breaking a “must” rule is a punishable offence, where “should” rules are just for advice.

This seems to focus on code style in terms of placement of brackets and new lines. From personal experience, I know there are some programmers with awful code style - random brackets, lines and indents everywhere. But above that low bar? I

Originally, so you could group related VLANs together. e.g. VLAN30 is Marketing, then later you need a second marketing team so they have VLAN31. If you’d had VLAN1, 2, 3, etc, you couldn’t do this. That everyone does it - even on small hom

In general I agree with you about Hemingway. But it tends to focus on clarity of individual sentences without thinking about the document as a whole. In the wrong hands, it encourages monotony.

The old adage is more “never do a big bang rewrite”, where the launch of v2 is one big step. An incremental rewrite, where perhaps you change a single component or bit of the UI, is always necessary. Although even there people moan about “c

An extreme version of this might be: > I saw Bob about to stab Alice, so I beat Bob to it and shot her in the head. I did nothing wrong since the outcome would have been the same regardless of my actions.

This is exactly the Prisoner's Dilemma, and also shows up in arguments why we need to build insane numbers of nuclear weapons. The logic rests on a faulty assumption that there is a binary choice - either you build it this way, or some

I took the OP's comment as meaning "it's not necessary for this to happen" rather than "it's necessary for this not to happen", a nuance which can be confusing, especially for non-native English speakers.

In addition to this, I found with Otter and Gong that it doesn’t understand internal jargon very well. When you say “the fizzbuzz microservice is blocked by Istio” the note-taking is appalling - yet those are key to understanding the point

The lecturer in that seemed both so knowledgable and passionate about their subject that he was just riffing, it was incredibly good. A lot of the courses are more like somebody reading out a textbook.

What causes fear of clowns? Probably the prevalence of both evil clowns (John Wayne Gacy, Stephen King's It, the recent Evil Clown meme). That, and the prevalence of the fear of clowns.

We all believe our job is so challenging and has such special requirements that it _can't_ be automated. It requires someone with the kind of experience learned with wisdom over a long time. Blah blah blah.
