Company does rebrand. And right on cue, a bunch of comments saying it's rubbish and unnecessary. Honestly, can't we find anything more interesting to say? Within a few years, this design will be redesigned, and all the same hackne

I remember being a naive 20-something and believing they’d find a new way of doing business. Maybe a co-op.

Consider a ‘dump’ function. By design, it handles anything you throw at it - strings, objects, booleans, etc. It won’t change. That’s ‘Any’. Whereas ‘Unknown’ might be a stepping stone to introduce a more specific type once all the use case

I’ve seen first hand people hired who’ve aced the system design interview but then fail to get much done. Building systems in the real world is much more than a few high-level components and algorithms - it’s about all the edge edge cases,

It’s hard to tell between those who know their stuff, and those who are good at memorising all the various courses that tell you what to say. By telling the candidate what system to design you make the latter’s job easier.

Your comment has so many "speech marks" I find it hard to read.

If that works for you, then great. But others do have different requirements to you, and thus it's useful to see someone compare different solutions.

I do see this a lot. e.g. “Hacker News readers hate Elon Musk yet own Tesla cars”

That's risk management. If the risk of losing the customers' (or future prospects') revenue is big enough, you should fix the bug. There might also be the risk of fines.

Anna Karenina. It basically tells you the plot on the first page, and yet is 1000 pages of something incredible. It's like being able to see inside someone else's mind - not being told what they're thinking, but being able to

It's also something you can do manually with a few admin people, or perhaps using a COBOL script. Innovation means we'll have different ways of doing the same thing.

My phone is a 4 year old iPhone SE and I’m writing on it now in private mode. I honestly don’t have the same experience as you, it mostly works fine.

I’ve done a lot of estimating for plans in spreadsheets. It’s awful. I’m really happy someone’s trying to innovate with an alternative.

Aren’t we on something like v15.0 by now? First there was software of the Enigma machine variety, then assembly, then massive IBM machines running COBOL, then C, then Ruby/PHP/Python. We could also talk about how networking and pe

There’s quite a variety of views when you’re talking about 5 billion people. Though I’m sure it’s true for a lot of them, there are also vast numbers of people who find that style or religion rather distasteful.

Interesting, I can imagine this being really useful for me as I’m an awful designer and just want a working UI prototype to test user journeys. How does it work with responsive layouts?

In general, I agree with you. I see it as a ladder of autonomy. The more effective you are operating as an individual, the more you can make decisions for yourself. But there is a lot more nuance than that in the day-to-day life of a busine
