As a developer, I'm getting scared off the Java platform here. I know it's the JVM that's at issue, but I hate the kind of lock in that this implies - I think they'll do serious long term harm here.

The only way that this would be fair would be for usage to stop the second a cap was reached and then user agreement to pay extra. I hate the kind of charges where you're constantly wondering how much you're spending.

I've recently quit smoking and I am feeling a little out in the cold (figuratively speaking) because my network that I've developed over the last 4 years has suddenly been reduced to a simple wave when I pass them rather than meaningful con

This is seriously putting me off. I was not thinking of a third party approach, but it limits me when I want to use my OWN scripting language when developing apps. Does this stretch to build scripts??

Thanks for reposting... It's new to me! I'm instantly thinking about IBM's cell processors and how much the connection machine parallel concepts fed into their design.

Still, all the same, it's nice to have a high end windows box just for gaming. I also use mine for testing web sites (so it's a valid company purchase :)

I wonder if this means that Activision are going to breathe life into the old kings quest franchise and this move was to avoid dilution of their IP

Well I started with Sinclair Basic, I know plenty of others that started with some flavour of MS Basic on various 8bit micros. This seems like a sensible step from Microsoft to go back to their roots somewhat with this. imo Apple really n

I'm in agreement with one point at least. I used to force myself to complete books that I wasn't enjoying out of some misplaced sense of achievement on completing a "difficult" book. I had the misfortune of reading "A Chancer" by James Kelm

Special case there, the US Govt isn't a car manufacturer per-se. That's just the equivalent of the Buy British message from the UK government. I don't see BMW, say, doing these kinds of ads and they seem quite popular.

I don't believe that the purpose of advertisements is to reassure customers AFTER they've spent the money. That doesn't make sense to me. Future sale is influenced by good service over the length of ownership. I don't agree that post-sal

I never did get to grips with the likes of NC or XTG. They always seemed to slow me down, kind of like they were designed for dummies. If I wanted to do some serious shifting of files, I was happy with DOS, if I wanted something visual, t
