Prototypical freelance gig: please use Ikea furniture, our budget is not large. Just change the height of that table from 3ft to 2.75ft. Also, please make it fit in this room that's too small for it. Stack this Ikea couch on top of it, but

Clients are ignorant - can't really fault them for it since it's not their domain. I've found it's best to let the ones who balk at the true cost walk away. They will go find some cheap service to build what they want ("oh, can you make it

How sad is it that this article needs to exist? It boils down to one final sentence: "The Takeaway: If you create a company that encourages people to lead full lives, you can land a full roster of talent." Or translated: treat people as...

Bit of a misnomer - talent is not directly tied to hours spent working, especially in knowledge industries. This simple, basic fact escapes most of our industry managers who still use management practices developed a century ago to manage s

The fun part is watching people actually try to control their body language in reality. You can try, but if you aren't feeling what that "power pose" is broadcasting, you'll just look like an idiot to anyone even remotely paying attention.

Might be true for Computer Science, but what does computer science have to do with tech/innovation? ;) Engineering programs are a great example - most provide opportunities for students to join projects outside of the core curriculum to bu

Yes and no. While I disparage the whole "marketing" side of things, I don't necessarily discount it. A good marketer or sales person can add immense value to a business and can source and provide connections that prove to be make or break.

This is adorable. Telling phrases: 1) "But I didn’t want to be constantly worrying about financing, loans or diluting my shares by raising funding to stay afloat. " That's nice, if you can't have 100% of everything it's not worth it. Tell

How am I confused? Get net of what? My point is that local start-ups are misrepresenting share options as "stock" in the company, telling me I have ownership when in fact I do not. And they use this notion that I am a "owner" to extract fa

Is 4 years your sum total? If so, 70k is fantastic in Calgary for that experience. Plus, depending on your needs/wants, 70k (without huge consumer debt) is enough to live quite nicely in Calgary right now. If you managed to grab a job work
