For me there are two axes that are lacking (based on Scala and Elixir usage): 1. The feature set is just far weaker. If an LSP implementation and the client both hit 100% coverage, then you might end up having the same refactoring, code gen

Types and editor tooling IMO. Both places they're making investments, but both areas where I feel like I'm giving up a lot of power, even though it's admittedly to GET a lot of power.

And of course the right way to do that is to take an extremely mediocre, rushed, incomplete language that is currently constrained to the browser, and make it run everywhere else, ironically having to reinvent many wheels and re-learn very

And you better start critically assessing dependencies if you're a programmer. They aren't free; this is a wild take.

I'd love to hear why Elixir wasn't for you - not from a judgemental place, I just like hearing others' experience reports for languages that stuck or didn't. For a web service with fast iteration times, I'd probably

The fact that HCL has poor/nonexistent multi-language parsing support makes building tooling around terraform really annoying. I shouldn't have to install Python or a Go library to read my HCL.

I at first had the opposite reaction, which is that I spend a ton of time fighting inverted ifs! But my reaction is not incompatible with yours. It's not, but it is related: I HATE reading: if (!someCondition) { // short am
