I think you have an inaccurate understanding of what monks do. Also I'm not sure if I'd call monks happy so much as I would content. The better example here is the guy living off of UBI smoking weed and playing video games all day

The right balance really depends on your domain. The reason I'm so big on dynamic typing is because the most important part of the product I work on is a ton of reporting from an SQL database. I shift as much work as possible to the da

Yes but this same argument works the other way, dynamically typed languages can do a half-assed impression of static languages as well. So its a tradeoff depending on your domain.

You're not the first, nor fourth for that matter, person to respond to dynamic typing advocation with that blog post, and it's an interesting post but it misses the whole point. The problem is not enforcing rules on data coming in

Line noise is a red herring in the static/dynamic comparison. You will still run into serious problems trying to shove ugly human-generated data into your nice clean type system. For mechanical things where you the programmer are build

I don't think the CoC wars are lost, I'm hopefully we're on the cusp of the backlash. The first project that succeeds with a CoC of "sticks and stones may break your bones but words can never harm you." is going to

Also back in that day 95% of our users were on Windows and we had a direct relationship with them. Now your user base is roughly split 40/40 between iOS and Android with a non-ignorable 20 running some windows tablet thing. Then for ex

Yeah that was a huge transition to make when working for an agency. Realizing that the bullshit work to communicate with the client while technically slowing the whole project down was the most important task you had. Reason being, the &quo

I knew one company where the standups were getting so bad, the managers solution was to have everybody in a plank position for the meeting. Meeting time got short real fast.

With no due respect, Ed Zitron nailed this. Only a generation as devoid of meaning in their life as our current one could turn watching Netflix before bed into some idea that they're part of the cultural zeitgiest reaching out for coll

Agreed, this is my go-to argument when trying to fix communist. For the sake of argument, take away human nature. Assume you have an all benevolent polibutro who really is looking to maximize the greater good. Now imagine the data collectio

That sounds like a really awesome tool, and it's shocking more code generation tools don't take the dual file approach. XCode has finally gotten it right with their code generation for CoreData models and that's been great. H

I think this is a pipedream. The problem with CRUD is it's never just CRUD. It's not about the records, there's always some higher level workflow invovled. That's why there's teams, requirements, all those goodies o

The lack of Ctrl is sadly a feature for web apps. You don't know which browser, and thus which set of shortcuts your user will be using your app from. However assuming that shortcuts will be prefixed is a pretty safe assumption, so the
