Metroid Dread is very good. It's way shorter, somewhat easier, more straightforward, and more expensive than Hollow Knight. Depending on how much time you have, all but the last of these can be pros.

For me personally, they hit it out of the park -- except for the notch, which seems like a complete showstopper to me at first sight. Maybe it's not so bad in practice if games and full-screen videos keep that whole strip solid black?

I think the answer depends on "why do you want to learn?". The implicit answer to that question for this blog post seems to be "to advance your career". That's a fine answer, but not the only answer.

I kind of doubt it. JPEG is good enough, and is pervasive. JPEG XL is better, but removing an incumbent file format requires more than just being better. We'll see.

That sounds like a useful mental model. But it can't be quite right, can it? There aren't enough cores to do _all_ pixels in parallel, so how is that handled? Does it render tiles and compute all edges several times for this?
