I tend to go with magnitude of possibilities. Specifically, if I'm still thinking of new applications/markets for the idea days later, it's probably worth pursuing.

I think a lot of us realize the privacy concerns and are very carefully weighing the cost/benefit tradeoff, especially from a user perspective. Instant Personalization has a distinct air of "evil" about it, but it can be very beneficial to

Even if this were a POST request, once could simply issue an AJAX request of any type to Twitter and it would have the same effect. Alternatively build a form in the iframe and use JS to submit it to Twitter.

I'm amazed Twitter doesn't use nonce values on their status updates: they've been around long enough that this shouldn't be an issue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptographic_nonce

Fortunately I think this is changing: tools are coming out that make running quantitative UX studies easier. Services like Optimizely, GazeHawk (disclaimer: that was a shameless plug for my company), UserTesting.com, etc are becoming more

I think this is one of the biggest perks of YC: I have more friends because I did it, not fewer. I met some of my closest friends there (and even got introduced to my girlfriend through one of them). Seems like a net gain to me ;-).

I left a great well paying job at TripAdvisor for a startup. It was definitely a hard decision and I don't know which way it would have gone had I not gotten into YC. Had my job offered to double my salary or something rediculous like that

Static IPs only cost money if you're not using them. For most small VPSes utilization is practically nothing. I'm not saying it will replace VPSes, but it's a valid competitor.

About time...at $15/mo these are now a viable competitor to generic VPSes.

Paraphrasing and skipping over some important points: convertible notes are awesome because you can offer people different valuations. Investors often don't want to be the first to commit. This lets you give them an incentive to do so.

The counter-argument is that, based on public gathered figures, YC is doing pretty damn well right now. I say they don't need tweaking because of that. They could tweak and try to scale quickly or get better returns, but they don't need t

Very interesting change of perspective. I think there's definitely room to experiment with tweaks of this caliber on YC's model (not so say that YC needs tweaking themselves). I'm excited to see what they come up with!

Some context: SXSW takes public votes into account for picking their speakers/panels (it's 30% of the rating). Many potential speakers have huge communities to tap to get votes, but we're young and haven't built that yet. If you like GazeH

Two main reasons: 1) Our processing can't be done realtime (i.e. it takes more than 1 second per second of video), at least for now, so there would need to be a lag that can get significant if they user has a slow enough computer. 2) We cur

Thanks for the feedback. Right now we're targeting web-based interfaces, but expanding into different products is definitely something we're considering. It depends on what kind of demand we see for it.
