Accessibility is actually a requirement in many countries (per law). Obviously not everyone needs it, but just that you do not need it doesn't negate that others do. Edit: Plus saying X breaks Y so X is not needed is not a good argument. Be

I receive all the bugs for Mageia. I don't notice bugreports for PulseAudio like what you describe. Seems very aggressive to suggest that someone has a "incredibly shitty attitude" just because someone has a different perception.

This usually depends on how business critical it is. If some service is not very business critical, then how do you justify (or get budget for) the extra resources you need to make it way more reliable? But even when not business critical,

systemd tracks service status way more reliably than sysvinit. It also stops services more reliably. This due to the usage of cgroups.

Systemd is actually way better at logging why a service did not start. With sysvinit I often had to figure out the exact command the shell script would start the daemon with to see the stderr output. Systemd just logs this by itself and you

Just as "gnome-shell" is an extension to Mutter, you can also add other extensions to Mutter IIRC (I mean Mutter extensions, these are different than the stuff on extensions.gnome.org). Furthermore, you should be able to change the behaviou

Interesting in light of the questions asked by the EU about the control of payment providers. Those questions were specifically about WikiLeaks, but the same applies to usenet providers as well as private torrent sites.

I also cycle to work and do the same thing (change clothes, apply deo). Only a 25min or so ride though. I cycle differently to work than going back, makes it more interesting.

Which is my point, if you don't involve yourself at all in the discussion, then it is going to be logical that sometimes a decision will be taken which didn't take some issue you had into consideration.

I already said I am on the GNOME release team. So instead of referencing LWN, I'd rather reference GNOME release team meeting minutes: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/release-team/2012-November/m... I'm not talking about BSD working toget

I'm not sure why you're focussed on PR? Anyone is free to help out and ensure that GNOME runs on BSD. But if nobody spends any effort, then don't complain when it goes wrong. At the moment even the feedback is pretty bad. There is 6+ months

You're wrong in your assumptions. Mageia did not have systemd support. We do now though, but we had to do that ourselves. To get systemd right for Mageia one person got involved with systemd and has sent various improvements upstream. Fixin

You left out the bit where I said that complaining from the sidelines is pointless. At the moment NetworkManager exists, I focussed on that, not some theoretical situation.

Aside from being a GNOME release team member I am also the packager for GNOME within Mageia. I find packaging GNOME to be really easy, way easier than I expected actually. Your argument comes across as that others should work more like the

He means more that some software is not shared (or available to) with everyone. Systemd is very explicit in that only Linux is supported. I guess pulseaudio is also a problem. A large part of open source is to share the source code so that

The development within Linux is going much quicker than anything else can keep up. Within GNOME only very recently we got some non-Linux using contributors. Portability just for portabilities sake is not a goal anymore. This is somewhat iro

My GPU is from 2007 or so and doesn't have a fan. It runs GNOME 3 perfectly fine. At that time it wasn't the fastest; I went for the cheapest fanless GPU that would still be supported by Linux. That compositing requires more resources, yes,

This is actually an accessibility problem and as such it should just work by default (no extensions or anything). The difficulty is spending time to figure out the best way to do this as well as trying&developing the various solutions.

The idea is that by dropping fallback, people can change gnome-panel and metacity as they wish. Meaning: making it work (and look) more like GNOME 2. I'm not sure if this is entirely feasible in practice. Actually fallback mode consist of v

Obviously that the performance is sometimes absolutely terrible is known. I'd wish it was not like that. Llvmpipe is not a good solution, nor are bad drivers. But IMO bad drivers are unacceptable. Why do we accept such sorry state? We had f
