You said he mostly works alone. That's something different than amount of code. "Work alone" implies amount of people, not amount of code. Obviously he started systemd and works full time on it. Then loads of other people work on it as well

Explicitly not support other desktops? That's wrong, systemd is supported by various desktops. In any case systemd is different level, a desktop should add support, not the other way around. Obviously best if a systemd developer helps out w

Seems you're just confusing things. Why do you suggest systemd is monolitic. What is the problem actually? There are various independant parts. E.g. the logind bit is now used by Canonical on upstart. Seems your issue is some theoretical pr

Could be be more concrete what service is failing? Systemd for me always gives really good output on why things aren't working.

You're confusing existing knowledge you already have with how easy another system is. Obviously if you already know one system, the other system will seem more difficult. I have had my fair share of daemons not starting due to various probl

A ban is not drastic at all. GNOME Bugzilla is for bugreports. There is no freedom of speech. If someone mostly contributes noise, does not want to listen, he's asked multiple times to please change his attitude, still continues, then the p

Red Hat doesn't run GNOME, though lately they've been hiring people for GNOME like crazy. The last time some GNOME contributor disagreed with one of my decisions, I make him a GNOME bugzilla admin. Any of the 4 admins are totally free to un

I have invited people to conferences before. They never show up. I behave the same in real life as on Internet. I'll say it again: Go to FOSDEM, go to the GNOME stand. I'll be near the stand most of the afternoon. Pretty nice to judge peopl

FWIW, I totally agree that just a "No." is bad, entirely understand what it resulted in. However, going after a developer in a bugreport is not tolerable behaviour as well.

There are clear rules on how to behave. You say it was fine, but you only judge on his version of his behaviour. He went on and on and on, various bugreports, various personal emails, etc. Eventually enough is enough. I see that you are now

Agree it was too blunt and not appropriate. The cause was that he was upset after various bugreports and private emails accusing him of all sorts of things. At one point it'll get to you.

The article is not about the kernel, but about delivering something people can use and expect that it works. So not just a kernel itself. Fairly common to call that Linux, even if technically it is just the kernel (and IMO GNU/Linux is "urg

Are you sure it is PulseAudio? In case of multiple outputs (headphones, speakers), PulseAudio can change volumes of them based on data from ALSA. Intention is that volume stays the same, except if the data from ALSA is wrong. Even with one

You should investigate how much Red Hat contributes all over Linux. Server side, but also loads of components used by various desktops. Not knowing about the huge contributions makes it overdue to investigate.
