As far as I know, grep uses Boyer-Moore for string matching when possible. Giving a variable char size encoding such as UTF8, plain Boyer-Moore isn't possible, but it is the asymptotically faster algorithm known. Hence even perfect versions

The cicles do not make sense to me. Minumum viable means the result of the lowest effort/functionality that leads to a viable product. Using overlapping circles just does not work at all, I'd say Using minimal without viable is somewhat st

I really dislike the footnote [3]. I think he shouldn't argue that the remaining margin of error doesn't matter, but instead should argue that it happens less often. This is why safety critical systems are sometimes verified using model che

since there are only ascii chars in the whitelist you could just declare an array of size 256 (doesn't really matter if it's a bitvector or char array, int array or whatever) and replace in WHITELIST by return (CHAR_MAP_ARRAY[c] = 'y'

I assume the 16% are supposedf to mean 16% for distinct queries. The well-known queries and common typos are entered a lot more frequently - so a huge portion of those 16% may actually just be bored people googling for "fist-on-keyboard"

The example for inheritence I liked best was something like this: Number (implementing trivial exponentiation through multiplication) RealNumber & ComplexNumber implementing their specific kind of multiplication. Later on replace the ex
