Aha, I found answers here: http://seclists.org/oss-sec/2014/q3/650 Basically, Bash interprets environment variables at start up as a means for you to pass functions into subshells. Whenever an environment var

Thanks. I'm still confused though: 1: Why does Bash "interpret" the environment variables' values? What is the expected result of setting a function definition as the value of an environment variable? In my worldview (wh

Good idea - You'd also have to add a "length" header at the beginning. Otherwise if the final SMS (containing the hash) was dropped, you'd be waiting forever.

Hopefully someone knowledgeable can elucidate properly but I believe cylinders are an inherently good shape for certain types of battery. The internal chemical process relies on two surfaces being in contact. You can roll up two surfaces an

Yes but delivery is guaranteed by TCP, which is the layer above IP. In this scenario, SMS is "above" TCP in the stack, so unless they add ACKs to their system (which would be pretty prohibitive when every text costs money), droppe

You haven't really described your goals: What do you want to extract from your analysis? Metrics to tell you what's "wrong" with the existing code base? Some sort of model of the system's semantics?

Sounds great! For anyone not sure of the context, right now Type-A is the "host" end and type-B is the "device" end. However since OTG was introduced that correlation isn't concreted and can reverse during the conne

As per my other comment - Audacity can do this. The representation is called a spectrogram. Edit: Oh and here's a JavaScript one. Haven't tried it as I don't have a microphone. https://github.com/sebleier/

Great idea! For anyone who wants to try it out without installing random software off the web, you can also view spectrograms with Audacity (and other stuff like Adobe Audition).

That's great - I actually came here to say "this is cool in an abstract way but what the fuck am I looking at? I'd love to learn a little bit more about the system". Turns out space folks are great at sharing knowledge!

First question: I don't know but I interpreted it the same as you. Second question: The "platform trees" described in this post are not exactly the same as the "device trees" used by Linux on ARM (and also MIPS I th

I like to use "trash" (i.e. "put in the Trash") instead of "rm" (i.e. "remove permanently"). For Linux there's a suite called "trash-cli" (on Ubuntu the binary is called "trash-put

So this is essentially delegating authentication to the user's Email service. Delegating authentication seems like a good idea: fewer passwords to forget and more conveniene. So why not delegate to a proper authentication service like

I agree with the sentiment but running nginx+Python on an embedded MIPS device? That's getting pretty ridiculous! Better to go the other way (lower-level), I think.

Aside: ARMv8 has made the messy ARM terminology even worse! Quick summary: ARMv8 (version 8 of the ARM architecture) has two execution states. AARCH64 is the 64-bit mode and AARCH32 is the 32-bit mode. These two modes use two different inst

I would be inclined to agree with you, except for the fact that HTML-only text spans the entire screen with no margins. It's really hard to read two sentences on one line.

Not a Web guy here: why do people use <script src="foo.js" /> instead of just including the code inline in the script tag? I understand that as a dev you definitely want your JS in separate files for practical reasons,
