I had private health insurance in Germany. It was quite expensive and had a very high deductible — so pretty bad incentives around routine health care, I never made a claim in 13 years. The upside was that if you needed, say, a brain trans

I’m a standard-issue stress eater. I also like to work out. When I’m really feeling the stress, even though I will tell myself at that time to just hang on and hit the gym later, the food is that much more of an instant fix that it wins

I like Hesse and I like Steppenwolf even though neither is my favorite -- but there is a fragment in Steppenwolf that I will never forget, that I have used often, and that anchors the love side of my love-hate relationship with the German l

I like Rust, but wasn’t “plopping” a binary onto a server and running it one of the original virtues of Go? Arguably a louder “plop” due to size, but then you don’t have to chmod.

Now that I tried it out, I find it very Westworld and I think I would prefer something more plastic, more witty in the way the web site and the launch process is witty. Robot Twin Hassaan was a bit creepy in his Uncanny Valley Ranch. Up to

Did you try it with a lower frame rate on the video? It seems like that'd be a good way to reduce the compute cost, and if I know I'm talking to a robot then I don't think I'd mind if the video feed had a sort of old-f

In Hungarian the people I know use felhő and not cloud. I don’t know what they say in actual IT circles but to my ears “cloud” sounds very awkward if stuck in a Hungarian sentence. https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felh%C5

These are the New Zealand police, right? I get that there’s a lot of corruption, but “nice GameBoy, my kid’ll love it after auction” seems like a stretch even for the US. If nothing else, it has a paper trail, right?

I did a fair bit of googling on this as it was my first time using eSIM. Apparently for iPhone the network switching eats the battery, whereas for Android (which has had dual-sim support for ages) it’s not a problem. Nothing else changed i
