I experienced the financial crisis first hand on Wall Street, a place fraught with people who pretended to know the ins and outs of risks. It was also a brutally honest place when it came to winners and losers. But that changed when Hank Pa

Bingo. They've been saying this about actuarial science for a very long time. But they fail to mention that (1) there aren't that many positions available, (2) for students smart enough to qualify for the positions (passing the CA

People live too comfortably now for us to see anything significant. 2008 was blatant and the Occupy Wall Street movement lasted a hot summer. I know a lot of people are expecting the next crash right around the corner but it's not gonn

It's not you, it's just that he's answering the question by using a macro framework. I don't necessarily agree with his approach because China has unprecedented scale in modern economics.

Disagree. The best high schools and undergraduate programs are all in the US. No contest.

You can go through a simple two-stage exercise. But it comes down to how China can churn out tech and this is exactly why they are not allowing the Big Silicon Valley to do business there (and understandably so). To be honest, the tech bato

This is wrong. China can’t defy gravity and the laws of economics especially in a global economy. It boils down to the fact that Chinese govt continues to abuse the labor without meaningfully increasing their standard of living. This can’t

This is a joke right? You were a flow trader for a dealer. How is that even remotely the same as buyside regardless of size? The tech at bulge doesn't even compare to what some of the sophisticated buysides have in place.

Asian-Americans should be fighting the Chinese natives not the schools because that's where all the spots have been going to for the past decade.

I am sure I am in the minority here but I believe there are way too many people getting PhDs just to get a job. I am not blaming the candidates/graduates because that's what the job market requires these days but there is somethin

There is a significant difference between repo and divi. Repo takes away from existing float where as dividend is returned PER SHARE. The difference could be more or less "technical" in a flat market but it's significantly mo

Took something as big as Amazon to topple Walmart. It’s going to take something even bigger to topple Amazon in the future. That should scare people. Scale begets scale.

I really don't understand what the Chinese gov't expects when they are trying to control damn near everything. I honestly believe they are convinced they've successfully hacked capitalism.

That’s bullshit. We have insanely large US corporations precisely because RoW didn’t innovate. They (US-based tech) simply make better products.

My take is he needs to do this in order to keep and attract the talent Tesla needs. Stock was way too volatile while rest of the tech industry has been going hockey stick.

That's an interesting take but I don't think it's Musk vs the Sauds. Musk realized he can't attract and retain tech talent with the shares in such a volatile state. I believe that's the underlying motivation here.

I believe zirp results in higher secondary (and as you pointed out primary) markets. The stock market in the US is shrinking because of the shift in focus toward foreign markets. Namely those with higher returns (and risks) which again is p

Market has been choppy since February but FB moving down will bring other stocks down with it. Google was down over the same period BECAUSE of Facebook. Facebook is very much a bellwether company like it or not.
