Anecdotally I find my m1 laptop and ryzen 5000-series laptop to have similar energy efficiency, but I don't have much hard data. When it comes to laptops idle efficiency is king and this is where it gets hard to test the chips because

I find freebsd pleasant for server use. But using it for desktop, probably would not enjoy. As for slackware, yes :^) I'm glad you're having fun. But I think most people would give up at the lack of good package management before

Sometimes I feel like this author, but then consider it may just be me getting older and resisting learning something new. I've never become an initv nor systemd expert but over time I have gotten to a point where I don't think sy

I've thought about this too but every time I've ever used remote X it's been terribly horribly slow. Do you really care? With RDP/VNC/others as alternatives, remote X has always seemed the most interesting but worst

It seems like wayland got a lot closer to generally usable in the last few years, but it's still not for everyone. Some of this is (intentionally) limited design, some of this is lack of people caring to migrate their software to work

As an enthusiast but not an expert nor a person with unlimited time and money, I found that while hitting 1gb/s LAN on ethernet is easy, moving up to 10gb/s has been hard. I have 2 networking cards and a router in between them, al

Every android release I see things removed, and inconsequential things added. It seems like iOS has been doing the opposite, such that slowly they may meet in the middle, and then iOS exceed android in every way. Apple folk, can I get an ho

It really makes me think... should we all have bought into blackberry/palm/windows' smartphone efforts in the 2010s? They seemed inferior at the time but, in hindsight, it's hard to imagine anything worse than where we a
